Texsox
Well, today's players is who he was hired to coach, he has to make them play, not the other way around. Sucks and probably is not fair, but that's why they pay coaches the big bucks, and players the biggest bucks. You can not fire the entire team, but you can fire the coach. Again, sucks and probably unfair, but that's why they say coaches are hired to be fired.
The Beast
QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Jeff Van Gundy maybe? I thought about him, but he also has some of the same flaws Skiles has---a key one being not getting teams past the first round of the playoffs. What I can't understand is why they fired Skiles this early, the Bulls usually start out slow anyway. sircaffey
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) I think Skiles isn't a very good coach (I put a bunch of stuff in the NBA thread about it), and I don't blame Pax for firing him at all, but this team has a lot more issues than this. A lot more work needs to be done if anything will be fixed. Agreed. Skiles' tough "his way or the highway" type style was going to wear on the players at some point or another. For some reason the Bulls always start horribly every season, and I think it's due to Skiles' rough coaching style. I would welcome in a more players' coach for a change. We no longer have a team filled with a bunch of rookies or second year players. We have a somewhat veteran team who knows what the NBA is all about. scenario
QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Assistant Jim Boylan will probably be the interim coach. I like Boylan, but I'm not sure he'll be the replacement. Jim was Skiles' handpicked right-hand man. If Pax decides to go in a different direction philosophically, he may opt for someone else. knightni
You know who might be an interesting hire? Alex English He head coached in the NBDL and is an assistant in Toronto right now who works in player development.

I've been away from Chicago and the details of the Bulls schedule for ten years. The slow starts were blamed on the long road trips every fall when Disney on Ice and The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Baily Circus came to the Stadium. The "Texas Triangle" and West Coast swings would always kick them in the ass.
Harry Chappas
Per CSN Sportsnite, Pete Meyers is the coach for Wednesday's game and an interim FOR THE THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON will be named after interviewing the three assistants. If I understood correctly there is no hope for this season. As with all teams Chicago except the cub they will go on the cheap as Skiles as being paid through next season. Yeah, that doesn't sound hopeful. I mean Pax has to be smart enough to see the past 3 years we have gotten off to worse starts than came back from them. If Pax thinks the players started tuning Skiles out, than he has to get a veteran coach who has been successful.

Um, what? You're giving the players a pass for this? That is why the NBA is a joke. It's 100% on the players to buy into the coach's system, no matter what it is. So he made him work a little hard. Boo effin' whoo.

Chisoxfn
I just want to thank Skiles for making the Bulls a real fun team to watch for three seasons. I won't forget how the team was transformed from the laughing stock of the entire NBA to one of the most respected teams in the NBA (they may not have been the best, but for 3 seasons they played harder and more fundementally sound than practically any team in the league). I hope Skiles gets a job next season and does what he did in Chicago, rebuild someone elses franchise to the point of respectability. However, I do think the time was probably right for the move and I would like the Bulls to bring in a guy who has a history of developing bigs. Bottom line this team is going to go as far as Tyrus Thomas/Joakim Noah can take them (we know what we have in the other guys and for this team to make it to the next level they will need to get something pretty productive out of the two big men lottery picks). I suspect we will see some changes to the roster by the trade deadline as well, which may include a trade involving at least one of the core players. The Beast
I only say bring in Stacey King because he used to play here, and has some coaching experience. Old players who weren't exactly the greatest but knew the fundamentals and the game well could be good coaches, and that's why I brought up King. DBAHO
Mike Fratello maybe? Skiles has a history of his players being worn out from his demanding methods so I could see this coming. Paxson is to blame too obviously as well though.
WilliamTell
I think there's a good chance Skiles will get a job elsewhere. As far as Pete Myers, he couldn't fill the shoes of Jordan when he was a player for those couple of seasons, not that he was expected to fill Jordan's shoes, but hopefully he can turn around the Bulls. ChicagoSports.com - Bulls Hire Boylan Seems silly to fire Skiles and hire his #2..... lets hope Boylan hasn't worn out his welcome in the lockeroom like Scotty had. Well, considering that the season is 1/3 over, it isn't exactly the best time to be bringing in an entire new system, new staff, and new coach. Any coach you'd hire would expect to have control over his system, be able to bring in his offense and defense, his assistants, etc., And that's really not going to happen in December with most guys. You almost don't have a choice but to play pick an assistant right now.
