Steve9347
So I've had a wicked bad head cold since about Saturday, and last night I tried to pop my ear to relieve pain... the ear popped but pain was even worse. Then, magically the pain stopped and I kind of heard a "thud" in my ear. Now it feels like I have something in my ear when I don't. Anyway, I'm 99% sure my eardrum burst... has this happened to anyone? From what I read on the net, it seems to be a wait it out type of thing, so I'm thinking I won't go to the docs. Ya when I was about 10 years old I had one of the worst earaches I ever had(I used to get them often),to the point where I couldnt even bear it anymore.I remember laying my head on my moms lap and feeling a thud and an instant relief of pain.I told my mom I dont feel it anymore and lifted my head up and there was blood all over her leg from it bursting. The doctor said I lost some hearing in my right ear but far less than a normal case,I never even noticed it. Brian
I get ear infections a lot. Had tubes in my ears as a kid. Usually get the infections every year or so. It is a point where I know it is coming, go to the doctor, get Omoxicilin and stop it before it ever blows up. Instead of trying to do it yourself, you should of gone to the doctor and got some antibiotics. You may have burst your ear drum. Get to a doctor just to check it out. It may get infected. Trust me. I too had the tubes when I was a kid. The ear doctor often told me to "pop" my ears when it gets like it was feeling. I didn't intentionally burst the drum. I guess I'll spend my final day I took off at the doctor's after spending the first 4 days this week sick!
shipps
I dont know where you got the "wait and see" approach from the net but this should be all the info you need on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otitis_media

If I had an infection I woulda gone and gotten an antibiotic right away.

knightni
If you've burst your eardrum, you'll start getting liquid blockage in a few days which will require a doctor's assistance to remove. After your ear starts draining, you might want to take a day or two off from work. The pain that comes from your ear draining rivals broken bones.
