Throwing this out there, but the Sox could realistically deal Konerko and not get a first baseman back (with Fields playing 1st and Crede playing 3B). It may not be perfect but with Swisher here you could afford doing that. Plus if you are able to get a legit 2nd baseman and leadoff hitter in the deal as well a darn good pitcher I'd be all for the move.

Would the Angels move Howie Kendrick and a starting pitching prospect for Konerko (I know the Sox have Richar, but Kendrick is ridiculously good). I'm not necessarily saying that is all the Sox get, but you could get the 2nd baseman for the future (and a guy who is projected to win a batting title sometime in his career) and present plus someone for your rotation.

Say you get Adenhart, Kendrick, and Juan Rivera (I throw this name out there so the Sox have an option in case no one plays center, plus the Angels shed one of there outfield spots....if people would prefer Willits, that is fine). I know that is a lot of talent from the Angels perspective and they have added bats like Hunter but it is still a move they could easily afford. Again, people may jump on it because the Sox have Richar, but good lord, if you could get Kendrick...umm yeah.

It took them a while to decide to include Kendrick for Miguel Cabrera. They're not dealing him for Konerko. And they sure as hell are not including Adenhart on top of Kendrick.

Maybe the Sox should let Swish play 1B every day....trade Paulie (hurts to say that) and pick up at least 1 other starter. Paulie going to Angels for Figgins and E. Santana would work for me....though I'd rather see Paulie go to NL because to me he seems like the type of player that would go to anohter team and kill us on a regular basis.

I'd like to wait and see how April and May go, but trading Paulie would definitely be a possibility now.

Gotta say I like this overall. From what I know, Gio and DLS weren't projected to be super-studs.

If you have ever been at work, or perhaps at home, and sat down to take a crap only to find that you sat in somebody else's piss ... well that's the feeling I have right now. The little glimmer of hope we had left, not that it was much, is gone from our farm system. I have to wonder if the White Sox will develop another player during the rest of KW's tenure.

We can keep talking about the safe pick, ect, ect. but the entire scouting department has been turned over, and Pordea was far from a "safe pick". He is what everyone was calling for, in a high upside, high risk type pitcher.

Let's see what happens in the draft.

The arm is more of a risk, but when a high school pitcher of the pedigree of Porcello falls into your lap with a prospect rotten system we have you select him. That was the best available talent at pitching at that point. We didnt pick him because Porcello required a larger bonus than Poreda. When this team starts to pay overslot for talent then I will breathe a bit easier. But the history of this team is playing within the slotting rules.

so, what's our lineup?

1. Cabrera, SS

2. Swisher, CF

3. Thome, DH

4. Konerko, 1B

5. Dye, RF

6. Fields, 3B

7. Pierzynski, C

8. Quentin, LF

9. Richar/Ramirez, 2B

looks like we will live or die by the home run, once again.

yeah man, i wish we had owens back in the lineup for some nice singles.

Makes you wonder if Fields was just mistakenly left off of KW's big board, and this past season he found out Fields was actually in our system.

where did I say I wanted Owens? I'd much rather have Swisher then Owens... but I'd rather have a real farm system and a team that actually had some upside past 09.

Yes he would. Currently 40% of our rotation is based purely on potential. Santana has more potential than that 40%, and 100% of our minor leagues.

Agreed. Santana may not have lived up to his potential, but I like him over Floyd in a second.

BearSox,

How much longer are going to still be "attracted to Ryan Sweeney"?

I am always gonna be attracted to him... And I will enjoy watching him develop in Oakland. Should get a good opportunity to play next season as well... I love mlb.tv.

wouldn't we all, bearsox? But we don't, and when we make a move like this to greatly improve a position on this team for the next 5 years, how is that different than having a all star potential OF waiting in the wings? I think in the next few years our new scouting dept. will have this team suited well to have impact players coming in about 2011. So i'm not worried about moving these spects for a legitimate hitter. The point of having a farm system is so you can nab guys like this. Now we have a legitimate OF for the first time since ... maybe 04 i guess. Now we have the #8 pick in the draft and a new scouting dept. what's the point of keeping guys that weren't that highly thought of anyways for a really good hitter?
