Steve9347
Spears Hospitalized After Custody Dispute Police say the singer was intoxicated when they arrived at her home to help settle a custody dispute with Kevin Federline (FROM REUTERS) – Britney Spears was taken to a Los Angeles hospital early Friday (Jan. 4) following a four-hour altercation with police, who came to her home Thursday night to help settle a dispute in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline. TMZ reports that Spears was taken out of her home on a gurney and checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for an evaluation. A spokeswoman for the hospital declined to comment, and an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department had no information. Spears was ordered to hand her two sons over to Federline at 7 p.m. on Thursday night, but refused, and the AP reports that police officers were called to her home at around 8 p.m. to resolve the dispute. Spears reportedly turned over the children at around 10:50 p.m., according to Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman. Lee told the AP that Spears was under the influence of an unknown substance when the police arrived at the home. An ambulance and fleet of police cars escorted her to the hospital a few hours later. Federline has temporary custody of their children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. Earlier on Thursday, the singer showed up late to a deposition and was deposed for just 14 minutes before leaving. After she completely missed a scheduled hearing on Wednesday (Jan. 2), Spears' custody lawyers asked to be removed from her case citing a ''breakdown'' in communication with their client. SoxFan1
Why the hell do people care? She's not worth being in the news at all. Get over it America. What the hell is with the infatuation with celebrities? Especially when their lives are crumbling? It's sick.

Rex Kickass
I kinda feel bad for her. Horrible family, bad marriage, crazy divorce, bipolar. Having a psychotic break in front of the whole world? This all went from funny to just sad a long time ago.
Dick Allen
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I kinda feel bad for her. Horrible family, bad marriage, crazy divorce, bipolar. Having a psychotic break in front of the whole world? This all went from funny to just sad a long time ago. I agree. A lot of people are laughing, but this is sad. I was never a fan of hers, but watching someone's life unravel like we've been subject to is pretty hard to watch. I watched some show and the paparazzi was following her every move when she walked into a Starbucks. It would drive me crazy. She probably has more than enough money right now to live the rest of her life very comfortably. I just hope someone can get through to her so she has a life to live, and her kids have a mother who is competent. Who cares about the career. Brian
When she started no showing court appearances and being seen with friends driving around, I stopped feeling bad for her. I was one of the few that thoughts she looked good at the VMA's.

Hopefully a proactive course of treatment can be found for her. Good to hear she wasn't drunk or drugged up though. At least she had sense enough not to impare herself further than she already was/is.
juddling
you know wher you read stuff like Brit blowing off custody hearings and such stuff, i wonder if, as a celeb, she thinks that she is above the law or if she is reverting to some form of rebellious childhood and really doesn't realize how much trouble she is getting herself into. either way.....it's a sad thing to watch. I thinks it's as Soxy said. A mental breakdown and she really doesn't comprehend the seriousness of the matter in her mental state. There are so many people around her telling her what bad is coming of her actions and she's just not getting it. Definitely not hitting on all cylinders. Middle Buffalo
I would bet Kevin Federline's considerable fortune that Britney has some manic-depressive issues. I actually feel really sad for her. And I'm pretty heartless when it comes to celebs.
Rex Kickass
It's widely rumored that this psychotic break is partially of a manic episode gone in the red zone from her BiPolar disorder.

My best friends sister is Bi-Polar, and she has pretty much done everything Britney has done, minus the money Britney has in the bank. It is a tremendously scary disorder that affects everyone around the person with the disorder

Kyyle23
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20169680,00.html Britney Spears has "suffered from a psychological disease for years," says a source close to the singer. Two separate sources who are acquaintances of the family believe the singer has never been formally diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but "there is no question she is bipolar … she's had manic episodes for years." According to Dr. Diana Kirschner, who has not treated Spears but is an expert on the subject, "people who show patterns of behavior like Britney are suffering from a dual diagnosis. They have both a substance abuse problem and a bipolar disorder or manic disorder." (In September, Spears was characterized by the court in her custody case to be a "habitual, frequent, and continuous" user of drugs, and was ordered to undergo random drug tests, but it's unclear if any tests returned positive.) Michael Cartwright, the founder of a high-end treatment center in Malibu, says that based on media coverage of Spears's behavior, sheo appears to have a drug and alcohol addiction and bipolar disorder. "She seems deeply ill to me," he says. Last March, Spears spent time in a rehab facility, the Promises Treatment Center in Malibu. Several friends of Spears have been told that the singer has taken anti-anxiety medication, "and who knows what she's on now. This is really a matter of her being unstable, not suicidal … she's not balanced." PEOPLE has learned from multiple sources that the singer also suffered from depression after both her pregnancies. "She had postpartum depression after Preston was born," says a source who was close to the family during her marriage to Kevin Federline. "She didn't want anyone's help … It got worse after Jayden was born." Early Signs Dr. Kirschner says bipolar disorder "usually starts in young adulthood from age 18 through early twenties. Up until that point, the person appears to be pretty normal, but it's like a ticking bomb." She adds: "When a person has this kind of problem, it's very hard for them to be a good parent. The main thing is for the person to go through treatment and recover … But they generally have to hit bottom in order to turn around and recover. If the person is laughing wildly as they're taken away in the ambulance, that does not indicate that there's much connection with the consequences of their behavior." A close family friend says "the tragic thing is that Britney loves her children and would never knowingly put them in harms way. Her mental instability is getting in the way of her making proper judgment and it's extremely unfortunate."
Middle Buffalo
She's really unlucky that she's manic and has money (and, therefore, the enablers that come with that in Hollywood). Mix that with drug/alcohol abuse, not good. Basically, there's no stopping her until she hits rock bottom. I don't think having reporters and photographers following her helps much either. Kyyle23
http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwec...TR-zp07.article Here's the latest on that ongoing sad soap opera -- the downward spiral of Britney Spears: • • A member of Spears' dwindling team of assistants and staff members told me Saturday that ''virtually everyone who works for Britney is following the lawyers' lead'' -- planning to resign, as have attorneys Trope & Trope. This includes her household staff, bodyguards and personal assistants. Britney Spears, smiling in 2007, has lost her legal team. Now her household staff, assistants and bodyguards plan to leave. (AP) ''Britney has gone over the edge totally. Checking herself out of Cedars-Sinai was the last straw for most people,'' said the staffer. ''She's totally impossible now.'' • • According to another source on the nursing staff at Cedars-Sinai, Spears was overheard angrily telling a friend ''this is the final straw'' -- furious her parents had contacted TV counselor Dr. Phil McGraw to step in and attempt to help Britney deal with her various demons. Spears was not alerted about Dr. Phil, and his appearance in her hospital room came as a complete shock to her. The fact Britney's parents Jamie and Lynne Spears are expected to appear on a special ''Dr. Phil'' show (reportedly airing Tuesday) supposedly enraged her even further. '''I will never speak to them again!' Britney reportedly screamed into her cell phone after McGraw met with her Saturday for about 15 minutes. • • While California law allows the hospital to hold Spears for a minimum of 72 hours since she was considered a ''special needs'' patient, a possible threat to herself or others, the hospital decided to release her after half that time. ''We have had many difficult celebrity patients in here over the years,'' said the Cedars-Sinai nurse. ''But Britney tops 'em all -- a real hellion. Screaming and carrying on and totally disruptive. Even though she was somewhat isolated in a VIP room, the administration decided she was too much trouble. In addition, it did seem she was no longer a danger to herself or others, as messed up as she is,'' added the nurse, a longtime Cedars-Sinai staffer. A spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai declined to comment on the case in any way. A representative of ''Dr. Phil'' did confirm that the TV advice guru had met with Spears ''at a family member's invitation.'' • • Spears' case was a hot topic at the Palm Springs International Film Festival over the weekend. ''Juno'' star Ellen Page was sympathetic. ''No one goes, 'Why is this happening?' They just judge and judge and judge. It's too bad.'' ... Amanda Bynes also felt for Britney. ''I think that this business just does weird things to people, and I think that it's sad.''

Ive seen Bi Polar and borderline behavior in one of my ex's they truly turn into another person all together, its scary. But somehow this one rubbed off on her little 16 year old sister as well, figure THAT out.
