santo=dorf
Can we just create a Cubs sub-thread in the Diamond Club where people like myself, Bull, and Santo can make comments about items referring to them? Don't drag me with Greg the Bull. After 2005 and moving to Des Moines, I view the Cubs like most other MLB teams. I will admit that I try to catch their games because I like watching baseball and I don't get Comcast.
Brian
Abreu whiffed on a fly ball at the wall and JD Drew gets a homer. That was funny.

fathom
I still contend Santana is on the decline. His home run totals last year were alarming, and they've continued to be high so far this year.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) I still contend Santana is on the decline. His home run totals last year were alarming, and they've continued to be high so far this year. It's certainly possible. He's a small fellow for a pitcher at 6'0 and 200 pounds, he's not old but 29 years of age isn't young either by pitching standards, and he's already thrown over 1300 innings in the majors this decade. Gave up 3 long balls today as well. Edited April 12, 2008 by whitesoxfan101

So, by doing this, the Rays don't gain anything in terms of delaying arbitration or fa, right?
Balta1701
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) So, by doing this, the Rays don't gain anything in terms of delaying arbitration or fa, right? No, they'd have had to wait a couple more months to delay arbitration by a year, unless he's sent back down at which point I think it gets complicated. jackie hayes
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) No, they'd have had to wait a couple more months to delay arbitration by a year. Yeah, to just gain control another year, they'd have to call him up at some point in May, and to delay arbitration, it'd have to be at least late May, more likely June. Or something like that... I'm surprised they didn't just shift Hinske over there for the next month, but good for Longoria.

Brian
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) Upton has amazing power. He and Mark Reynolds are off to great starts, but yeah, Justin's homer was a bomb. With those two, Young, Connor Jackson, Byrnes, and a staff with Webb, Haren, and Unit, they should win that division.
Jordan4life_2007
The D-backs are absolutely loaded! They've done such an amazing job with their drafting and developing the last 4-5 years. I picked them to win the NL before the year. They're even better than I thought they would be.

So sez the St Pete Times, here. Longoria did stay in the minors long enough - 13 days, two more than necessary under baseball's rules - that his eligibility for free agency, even if he doesn't return to the minors, should be delayed an extra year, until after the 2014 season. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) 2 hours after first pitch, Sawks and Yanks are in the top of the 4th. Yikes. Ended up taking them two and a half hours to finish up half of the game (4 and a half innings). Dice-K had to throw 116 pitches to get through 5 innings, gave up 4 runs, 5 hits, and 6 walks, yet somehow he's the guy in line to get the win and has a 3 run lead. The Yank pitchers also have 6 walks though, and thus they trail. Brutal. Edited April 14, 2008 by whitesoxfan101
