QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 10:47 AM)
Explaining what happened when Jose Reyes put up a fight when asked to leave Tuesday's game with a hamstring injury, manager Jerry Manuel joked: "I told him next time he does that I'm going to get my blade out and cut him. I'm a gangster. You go gangster on me, I'm going to have to get you. You do that again, I'm going to cut you right on the field."

Manuel has been on the job for less than a week, but that has to be the leader in the clubhouse for managerial Quote of the Year. He was known as a relatively laid back manager while with the White Sox, but has apparently been sharpening his blades and taking gangster lessons since then. Reyes returned to the lineup Wednesday and went 3-for-5 with a steal, three runs and zero incidents of going gangster. Jun. 19 - 9:28 am et

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 07:05 PM)
J.P. Ricciardi rips into Adam Dunn and Adam Dunn in turn rips into Canadian currency (and Ricciardi too).

"If anything happens, I ain't going to Toronto," Dunn said. "I can eliminate one team. I'm not converting my dollars to loonies and toonies just yet."

Riccardi is an idiot. There's no reason whatsoever why he should talk publicly about a player like that.

What did he say?

He was on a radio show and a caller asked if they would make a move for Dunn by the deadline and Ricardi said something along the lines of "I don't want players here who are lazy and dont work hard, if I were to trade for Adam Dunn you'd be a disappointed fan.:

here is more of it. Ricciardi really is a moron, this was just uncalled for in the conversation

First a fan calls up and asks Ricciardi whether the Jays have interest in Dunn. Ricciardi replies that he's not interested in Dunn. Then he says:

"Maybe we have more information and know the player a little more than the average fan."

Interesting. Another fan calls up and says he's surprised Ricciardi would be so quick to dismiss a power bat like Dunn. Ricciardi really goes off on Dunn this time:

"He's a lifetime .230-.240 hitter that strikes out a ton and hits home runs.

Did you know the guy doesn't really like baseball that much? Did you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here...We've done our homework on guys like Adam Dunn and there's a reason why we don't want Adam Dunn."

Seeing that quote on a messageboard wouldnt surprise me. Seeing a GM say it is just no class

Dunns response is pretty funny

And Adam wasn’t certainly happy when he caught wind of Ricciardi’s comments. So Dunn swung back today, saying Ricciardi is better served working at the circus:

I know nothing about this clown. I have no idea who he is,” Dunn told reporters in Cincinnati on Thursday. “I don’t really care what one guy thinks, to be honest with you. If I’m a GM, I don’t know if I would go out of my way to kind of discredit a player.

“It [ticks] me off to be honest with you. He doesn’t even know me. If he knew me, fine, say what you want. This guy doesn’t know anything about me other than what he sees on whatever SportsCenter they have up there. That’s it.”

(In Canada, that should actually be “SportsCentre”.)

The Reds are come to visit the Skydome Rogers Centre next Tuesday for what should be an interesting three-game set. But Dunn says he has no ill will toward his future opponents in the dugout:

“The players didn’t say anything,” said Dunn. “It was some clown sitting in the front office pushing paper.”

However, that doesn’t mean Dunn wants to buddy-up with the Blue Jays or become part of their roster:

“If anything happens, I ain’t going to Toronto,” Dunn said. “I can eliminate one team. I’m not converting my dollars to loonies and toonies just yet.”

Kiko Calero DFA'ed...there's no way a pitcher of his caliber will pass through waivers. I'm more hoping Detroit doesn't claim him.

Oakland might be the most surprising team in the majors. I mean, everyone knew Tampa had the talent to do this, but Oakland traded off damn near everyone, and they're only 3.5 games back with a strong record. Their pitching is strong enough that they have to just jettison someone like Calero (who had a down year in 2007, but still).

Chan Ho Park, back in baseball and sporting a sub-3 era, has currently gone 3 innings against Cleveland and struck out 6, giving up only two hits and one walk, one of the hits a home run to CC Sabathia.

Can you fathom how improbable that sentence is?

The Cleveland offense is so bad, the pitcher has to support himself. ROFL.
