Wow, that was a trouncing. It was enough to put the Red Sox's run differential over ours by 2 runs. They're at 91, we're at 89. Could this be the beginning of the pitching slump that we saw when the Twins invaded the Cell and got crushed by 25 runs in a 4 games series? We'll see. Maybe the Tigers will come roaring back this weekend.

I'd love to see Detroit win 3/4 or even a split would work.

If the Tigers won 3/4, we were 3.5 up tomorrow, we win our final game in KC, and we swept the Rangers, we'd be 6.5 up on Minnesota and 8 up on Detroit.

If they split, we were 3.5 up tomorrow, we final our final game in KC, and we swept the Rangers, we'd be 5.5 up on Minnesota and 9 up on Detroit. I'd probably prefer this more one.

Anything above a 5 game divisional lead at the all-star game is great. I'll settle for anywhere from 4.5 to 6.5 over the Twins. Hopefully, it's in between, like you said.

If we end up sweeping Kansas City, worst case scenario, we're still in first by the break.

Well at least you know the Twins will get a lot of help at the trade deadline.....oh wait, they never do.

Sorry. I had to.

but you are right on the money. I saw a rumor in teh paper today that the Twins have had 'internal discussions' (whatever that means) about Adrian Beltre. That would be great

As for Liriano. The Twins have gone on record saying he needs to have consistant good outings in Rochester before he gets considered to be called back up. Im not pinning my hopes for a Liriano return this year

Exactly. We don't even need to sweep KC. If we lose tonight, win tomorrow, and sweep Texas- and Minnesota wins all of their games, we'd still be in first by the ASB.

I was thinkin'- if we go 4-1 in our next 5, we'll be 18 games over at the ASB. After we come back, we have a real shot of sweeping KC and TEX at home. At that point, we could be 24 games over. Even if we go 5/6 in the home series's vs KC and TEX, we'd be 22 games over.

Jim,

Jul 9 Twins.MLB.com's Kelly Thesier reports Minnesota Twins SP Francisco Liriano was named International League Pitcher of the Week after he threw 13 scoreless innings and struck out 16 batters at Triple-A Rochester. KFFL

Jul 8 LHP Francisco Liriano allowed seven hits and struck out 16 over two starts last week, earning player of the week honors in the International League. Liriano, sent down to Class AAA Rochester following three subpar starts for the Twins in April, has won six straight decisions for the Red Wings and is 6-2 with a 3.80 ERA. The 2006 American League All-Star missed the entire 2007 season after Tommy John elbow surgery.

If not now then when?

Because 13 scoreless innings with 16 k's sounds pretty good, not to mention winning 6 straight decisions.

People here are way overlooking the rangers, last I checked they were over .500.

Good pitching (us) > Good hitting (them)

Bad pitching (them)

We should win 4/6, 5/6, or 6/6 in the 6 games we play them.

oh, I know. Im just saying what the Twins are saying. He was pretty up and down until about a week and a half ago.

I also dont expect him up soon because there is a bit of a log jam at the started pitching position

What? Matt Lawton for Rick Reed was huge....a huge mistake.

Adrian Beltre would be a bad idea cuz he hates us and rakes vs. us.

Yet they are above .500 in a division with the Angels and Athletics..... It is dumb to assume so easily that both series will be a walk in the park.

Tribe up 4-0 in 2nd. Bet they end up losing 9-5.

I was close, but point remains the same. Tribe has lost 10 in a row and have given up besides Grady.

That walk off 2 run HR, down 1, by Hamilton off K-Rod gave me the chills. If you could play one clip to define his comeback story, this was it.

BALLLLLGAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing that Rodriguez didn't pump his fist like a douchebag this time, huh. :D

it was a bad play by the outfielder (Joyce I think it was) that led to the win for the Twins

although Justin Morneau had a monster game. 5-5 and a walk and the GW HR. He is flat out raking the last two weeks
