Spring Training Info

I went last year to see them play the Angels and the Cubs, I bought the Angels ones on ticketmaster and the Cubs on stubhub.com. It all just depends on where you would like to sit. There are no bad seats in the house but when I was there the Sox were in the 1st base dugout rather than the 3rd baseline dugout.

Where to stay? I forget our hotel but it was literally one block from the airport and only a few minute ride to the stadium so I suggest finding a hotel in that vicinity.

If you want autographs, I suggest leaving the game a little early and heading out to the West side of the stadium. You will see many people gathering and waiting. Last year, I waited there for probably 2 hours and finally out came Pods and Lisa Dergen. Then Brian Anderson was driving out and my buddy and I were actually in his car talking to him about the game (he had swung and missed badly and twisted his ankle.) He was real cool.

If you like Mexican food, definitely check out El Charro in downtown Tucson which is real cool. Half of the resturant is outdoors and there Chimichangas were named one of the top 50 dishes in America by Time Magazine. They are AWESOME

i've gone for the past 5 years now and am going again this year so ill try to help u out a bit. if you are planing on watchn the sox in tucson then just get the tickets from chisox.com like they said above ....no real bad seat and fairly cheap i think the most expensive sox ticket is $17. if ur planing on going to other parks like i am to follow the sox then you'll have to get the tickets from the home team's website 4 example if ur gunna see sox vs. halos in tempe you gotta get the tickets from the angels website. as far as hotels go there is a fairfield marriot right across the street from the tucson airport that is fairly reasonable priced and really close to the field. other than that i think there is a double tree close too ive stayed there b4 but its pricey....um lets see what else um yeah arrive like at 10:00am ish b4 the game and u can watch the sox work out on the back fields and get some nice pictures and autographs by this huge blue gate that leads from the field to the sox clubhouse....well hope i helped a little bit let me know if u have anyother questions...dont pass it up if u got the opportunity! its an awsome experience ...ill be there march 1st and 2nd i think the dates are (sat & sun) and also again march 7th - 10th on the road w/ the sox in ariz. let me know if anyone will be there during those dates maybe we can get together during or after the game for a few drinks :cheers

I forget who gave me this info, but it was someone from this site...so thanks again to whoever that was...here ya go....

www.visittucson.org and www.dotucson.com are good places for info. It gets dark down there about 6 to 6:30 so you should fit in 9 holes after the games.

Seeing the players ... Maloney's on 4th Avenue (4th Ave. is where you'll want to hang out), Bob Dobb's Sports Bar on E. 6th Ave. and some of the restaurants out on E. Tanque Verde Dr. which they call Restaurant Row. Also near campus there's Gentle Ben's (brewpub) and across the street is Frog and Firken. The latter two are not far from 4th Ave.

All the games are at 1:05 pm. It is a big complex with several fields, most of the "B" games take place late morning, around 10:30 or so and you can just walk up and watch.

When I was there a couple years ago. We went out to eat on a Tuesday and asked some of the waitstaff where to go and they said Cactus Moon would be fun that night because they had a 80's rock band there. Well it was a pretty kick ass time...and was the highlight of our trip. It was jacked up, so if that's not your thing skip it....but everyone was having a great time..I'd definitely recommend it for a night of getting stoopid. http://www.metalheadrocks.com/

we stayed in the holiday inn a few blocks away from the stadium last year. Good location to the stadium, but not much else. If you're going, rent a car because where the stadium is located is all industrial, not that much to do. We had to cab it to go into "downtown" tucson and that cost a fortune.

Be sure to visit Guero Canelo for a Sonoran hot dog...

And for those of you who don't know about Sonoran hot dogs (video) ...

The carne asada caramelos at Guero Canelo are amazing, too.

My favorite restaurant in Tucson is Cafe Poca Cosa. It's located downtown, and you'll want to make reservations.

EDIT: ALSO, IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU'LL BE DRIVING IN TUCSON ...

The I-10 is open, but the exits are closed from 22nd to Prince. The closings affect all of downtown Tucson and several major roads, including (but not limited to) major east-west roads Congress/Broadway, Speedway and Grant. It's part of a highway widening program. So if you hop on the interstate on Ajo (TEP is on Ajo Way right next to the 10) you won't be able to exit until Prince on the north side of town.

Also of note to those of you who might be trying to find a hotel near the airport, the Desert Diamond Casino opened its new facility late last year. It's located on South Nogales Highway, across the street from the western edge of the Tucson airport. The casino is brand new, and they opened an on-site hotel. I haven't been inside the hotel, but they did a nice job with the rest of the complex. Be forewarned, though, that rooms at the new Desert Diamond hotel are among the most expensive in town, according to a recent story by the Arizona Daily Star.

Heh, that's where I stayed when I went in 05. There is absolutely nothing around there.
