Alright guys, I have this project for my AP Stats class and with it is this spreadsheet which has all the data and charts for it. In the class we used Macs and Excel, and I saved my work onto my USB drive and that worked fine when I saved it then and used it again on the Mac. But now at home my PC is saying that it cant read the format, or that there is an error and must shut down excel. It will open in Word, and I can get the spreadsheet info but not the graphs. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

What version of Excel are you using at home, and what version are you using at school? Older versions sometimes have problems opening newer files. You might have to go back to school, load the spreadsheet, and check the "Save As" menu for the version of Excel that matches your home version.

I am using the Microsoft Office XP Professional version, and Im not sure what the school has, should be the same version I believe. I emailed my teacher and hopefully she knows whats going on. Other classmates havent had any problems that I know of with the different versions (if they are diff.)

Office XP is Office 2002, and Office for Mac's two most recent versions are 2008 and 2004. Either of those may have a problem opening your spreadsheet. You might also want to try opening your spreadsheet in Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/), as I've had luck opening files Excel and Word don't like with it. The only time it won't work is if you have lots of macros, or odd formatting elements.

Wow that worked, thanks almagest! One question about it though, do I just save it as I normally would onto my USB drive under an Excel format or what? My teacher will need to be able to open the document

If you opened it in Open Office, just be sure to save it as an Excel file. It may complain at you, but it'll still work. Then if you have time, test it at school.

If you were able to open it in Excel XP, just save it as an Excel XP file. Your teacher will be able to open it, as the MS Office suites have good backwards compatibility.
