CanOfCorn
How do they decide between Best and Best Supporting? I mean, I would think Javier Bardem would be nominated for Best Actor? Weird.

Soxy
Julie Christie will probably win Best Actress--but that statue totally belongs to Marion Cotillard.

NorthSideSox72
Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton should win for supporting - they made that movie, far more than Clooney did. Wilkinson was just amazing. But as they were in the same movie, I doubt they both win. And Day-Lewis was amazing in There Will Be Blood - he should win there. Gotta go with Ellen Page in Juno, though there are a couple films in that category I haven't seen. I'm torn on best pic. As usual the category that the Oscars regularly get so wrong it hurts, score... how is Enchanted not in there? Same with There Will Be Blood? And as much as I loved 3:10 to Yuma, that Beltrami score was very simplistic and wasn't a prime motivator in the movie's success. 3:10 to Yuma SHOULD win for sound editing, but it wasn't even nominated. I have a buddy who did a lot of the sound work on Transformers, including creating some of the SFX and voices. So I hope that wins.
Rex Kickass
La Vie en Rose at least deserved best foreign nod. In support of the Unions, I will picket my TV during this. Or just watch Celebrity Rehab on VH1. Either will be about the same.
Soxy
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) La Vie en Rose at least deserved best foreign nod. In support of the Unions, I will picket my TV during this. Or just watch Celebrity Rehab on VH1. Either will be about the same. I found the movie a little jumbled (we were supposed to see The Lives of Others, but couldn't so we saw La Vie en Rose instead--so I didn't have any background going in). But I thought Cotillard did an amazing job. I'm trying to think of another recent performance that was as good, but I'm drawing a blank. Simply amazing. And the music was amazing too, thanks to that film I have a TON of Edith Piaf on the old ipod. Do you think the Oscars will go on? It might not be that interesting if they don't get a waiver (which it's looking like they won't). I imagine then the Actors and directors also wouldn't show. Rex Kickass
They will not get a waiver. The Oscars makes nearly as much money as the Superbowl for ABC.

santo=dorf
How do they decide between Best and Best Supporting? I mean, I would think Javier Bardem would be nominated for Best Actor? Weird. Do you honestly feel like the movie was all about him? The main actors would be Josh Brodin and/or Tommy Lee Jones. Javie didn't have that much dialog. Balta1701
QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) But who will watch without the actors? Hell, I only watch to see the fashion. With the sides talking again and a DGA contract giving the blueprint, I think something will get done before the Oscars. Not only does it make a lot of money for the network broadcasting it, but perhaps more importantly, it's a gigantic commercial for the movies involved. It's literally hundreds of millions of dollars of free marketing. Those studios have too much to lose if they lose people from that show.,
Rex Kickass
All the studios have to do is agree to a token amount for online content, and the strike ends.
CanOfCorn
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Do you honestly feel like the movie was all about him? The main actors would be Josh Brodin and/or Tommy Lee Jones. Javie didn't have that much dialog. No, but I think he was the deepest character in the movie. The didn't get into Josh Brolin's character too much. He was kinda just motivated by money. Tommy Lee, while excellent, reminded me of the Stranger in Big Lebowski...he pushed the story along. Javier Bardem, to me, was the center of the movie. Basically, to me, the movie was about how evil the world can be. Just my opinion... Rex Kickass
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) I don't know if a "token" is going to be enough. The WGA and SAG aren't going to go down lightly on the wave of the future. I think it will. I think the WGA and SAG can understand the idea of not getting a huge amount of residuals for broadband contact, especially given that the market has not matured and probably won't for a few years yet. Also, given the Director's contract allows for another 10 years for them, the WGA will have to concede somewhat. This strike seems very much about principle. If the studios concede the principle that writers should get residuals for broadband content, even if its based on an ROI circumstance, I think the strike ends within the week. RibbieRubarb
A real nice selection of films nominated this year. It was going to be a tough year as there were an exceptional amount of GREAT films in 2007. Biggest Snubs: Besides Emile Hirsch for Best Actor in Into the Wild, I like to overlook the main catagories and focus on snubs in smaller ones. BEST ORIGINAL SCREEPLAY Knocked Up - Judd Apatow BEST EDITING Hot Fuzz BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM Lifted - Pixar Films BEST ART DIRECTION Across the Universe
