Balta1701
The Final S.C. polls before the election had Obama up anywhere from 15 to as little as 3 in a recent Survey USA poll. Exit poll reuslts seem interesting on people's attitudes on how this campaign went. Nearly six in 10 of those voting said former President Clinton's campaigning in the state was an important factor for them, including a quarter who called it very important. ATTACK!!!!! After the contentious Democratic debate Monday night, three in four Obama voters said Clinton had attacked Obama unfairly and slightly fewer than half accused their own candidate of attacking Clinton unfairly. Two-thirds of Clinton voters said Obama attacked her unfairly and nearly as many said she attacked him unfairly. Edwards voters were more likely than either of the other candidates' supporters to say both Clinton and Obama attacked each other unfairly. LOOKING AHEAD Roughly four out of five voters would be satisfied if Clinton or Obama wins the Democratic nomination. Slightly more Clinton voters would be dissatisfied with Obama than vice versa. Slightly more Obama voters say Clinton would be more likely to be the eventual Democratic nominee than vice versa. Interesting that nearly 50% of Clinton voters thought she went after Obama unfairly. Balta1701
Obama's exit poll lead was seemingly large enough that the networks have gone ahead and called the state for him simply based on those. Sigh of relief. Edited January 27, 2008 by Balta1701
Balta1701
The Race for 2nd between Hillary and Edwards at least is still close.
Rex Kickass
If they called it as the polls close, I'd wager that Obama got close to 50%. 81% of black votes went for Obama. 24-27% of the white vote went for obama. If that splits evenly - 50% AA turnout, 50% white turnout, we're looking at 52-55% of the total vote for Obama.
Balta1701
Per Russert on MSNBC...Obama might have won by as much as 30. CNN supposedly used the phrase "intense battle" for 2nd place. Edited January 27, 2008 by Balta1701

Rex Kickass
Rasmussen tracking poll has the national difference down to 3 or four points between Clinton and Obama. As I said before Iowa, attacking Obama backfires.
Balta1701
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) Rasmussen tracking poll has the national difference down to 3 or four points between Clinton and Obama. As I said before Iowa, attacking Obama backfires. I took a look at that tracking poll, but as far as I can tell that's just the 1 day data, which is bound to have some very extreme errors/swings in it. I don't buy it until it becomes a trend. Balta1701
If the media wanted to really go after the Clintons for "playing the race card", which you know they'll want to do...here's the official blue ribbon video of that happening. Bill gets asked a question not remotely relating to race, or even South Carolina. Bill's immediate response..."Jesse Jackson won South Carolina twice". southsider2k5
Obama now leading by a two to one margin (54% to 27), with Hill only leading Edwards by 7 points.
Balta1701
only 25% of districts counted, but over 135,000 Dem votes already counted. They were talking a turnout of maybe 300,000. The number might dwarf that.
Balta1701
35% counted and 185,000 Dem votes. The Dem record in S.C. is 290,000. They look on pace to SHATTER that number. The Republican turnout was 442,000 in their side.
Balta1701
Obama's lead pushes back up to 28%, now doubling Hillary again, it would be really nice to hit 30. 270,000 votes with 55% counted. Obama just passed McCain also. Edited January 27, 2008 by Balta1701
Rex Kickass
The turnout in the SC Dem Primary as well as the NV caucus makes me wonder if, regardless of nominee, a lot of these so called safe states will still be safe for the GOP come November. Balta1701
AP After playing a muted role in the earlier contests, the issue of race dominated an incendiary week that included a shift in strategy for Obama, a remarkably bitter debate and fresh scrutiny of former President Clinton's role in his wife's campaign. Each side accused the other of playing the race card, sparking a controversy that frequently involved Bill Clinton. "They are getting votes, to be sure, because of their race or gender. That's why people tell me Hillary doesn't have a chance of winning here," the former president said at one stop as he campaigned for his wife, strongly suggesting that blacks would not support a white alternative to Obama. Clinton campaign strategists denied any intentional effort to stir the racial debate. But they said they believe the fallout has had the effect of branding Obama as "the black candidate," a tag that could hurt him outside the South. southsider2k5
75% of the vote is in and Barack is still holding the two to one lead. Wow, this is an ass whipping of biblical proportions. Even the biggest polls I saw were only 18% wide. Clinton is going to have a hard time explaining this one away.
kapkomet
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) 75% of the vote is in and Barack is still holding the two to one lead. Wow, this is an ass whipping of biblical proportions. Even the biggest polls I saw were only 18% wide. Clinton is going to have a hard time explaining this one away. They already have. That's why you saw BEFORE the primary that they were going to lose because of the black vote. They've already "softened" the loss before it even happened. That's yet another reason why I said after NH it didn't matter what happened or where, that the race is over.
Balta1701
410,000 votes in with 86% reporting...looks like the Dems may well win the South Carolina turnout. I wonder if that's happened since the 60's.
Balta1701
The Dems have beaten the Republican turnout numbers, and managed to turn out over 500,000 voters in South Carolina, breaking their old record by over 200,000 votes. Obama is now about to pass Huckabee + McCain combined, Clinton beat all the Republicans except McCain. BO with about a 28% win, more than doubling Hillary's numbers. Balta1701
It sounds like the media types are really going after Bill on his Jesse Jackson remarks. This could either help in that any press is good press, or it could hurt, since it gives the media a real chance to absolutely jump all over him. They're jumping, now we see what it does. kapkomet
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) Hillary only had to win one state in a pretty close race? I don't buy that at all. Oh yea. You have to understand that the media is creaming their pants for Hillary. After Obama "HAD A GIGANTIC WIN" and Hillary won, she got the "comeback kid" label Billy had. They got their wish, and you have to understand that the media has already WAAAAAAAAAY factored in an Obama win in SC purely because of the race factor, which is sad.
