witesoxfan
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) I hate Ted Lilly....but he's still a solid starting pitcher. Jason Marquis is laughable, but I just didn't understand the Lilly hate. He'd easily be our #3. That speaks more about how rough the White Sox rotation is than how good Lilly is though. I understand what you are saying...Lilly is a solid starter, but his numbers were good last year playing in a pretty crappy NL Central and NL in general. I'm not sure if you can count on a sub 4 ERA again, but I could easily see something like what he did in 2006, around 4.25. That is good, but is a bit bloated because of the NL. bigruss
I could see JD being shopped to the Mariners with this deal going down, wouldnt they need a right fielder? Plus he could really help out that offense. Maybe one of their young pitchers would work. Just throwing it out there. JD for Ichiro + cash!! BearSox
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) Which is kind of odd, though -- the Orioles have Weiters (sp?) who (IIRC) was supposed to be a fast-track player who shouldn't have to spend a whole lot of time in the minors... Then again, if they do both pan out, that's kind of a 'good' problem to have. Well, there has been talks of moving Clement to either 1B or DH since his D at catcher leaves a lot to be desired. JD for Ichiro + cash!! yeah cuz thats what they want to give up is pitching after they lose Tillman, and have a backend 3 of, to choose from 4, Silva(he just signed so he has to be in it basically), Washburn(definitely not going to BP), Ramirez and Batista(Batista will probably go to BP with best experience) so yeah im sure they would give us Morrow, or O'Flaherty, or Rowland-Smith ...... BearSox
The M's rotation is shaping up to be something like... Bedard, Hernandez, Silva, Washburn, Morrow... That is a pretty solid rotation. You'd have pretty much 2 aces, 2 decent middle of the rotation guys who can give you quality starts, and a high upside guy in Morrow. Add in Batista who could fill in for Morrow once in a while and be an effective guy out of the pen as well. Plus, they have Horacio Ramirez who I've always liked, but he did suck last year. Perhaps he could rebound. If they could get some offense, they could be a real tough team.

Tillman isn't really that big of a loss. You'd hate to lose his arm, but he has been getting knocked around in A ball and still has AT LEAST 3 years before he reaches the majors. Felix
The Mariners' quest to land Orioles lefty Erik Bedard is on hold — and possibly off — due to the involvement of O's owner Peter Angelos, according to major-league sources. The reasons for Angelos' hesitation are unclear. Angelos' first choice is to sign Bedard to a contract extension, according to one source. The owner was under the impression that Bedard was unwilling to consider such a deal, the source says, but recently learned that the pitcher would entertain an offer if the Orioles were willing to extend him at least five years. Other sources dispute that notion, saying that the Orioles are furious with the Mariners for allowing their trade talks to become so public. The Orioles, one of the sources says, are now holding out for an even better package. Rosenthal

Balta1701
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Angelos is good at screwing his team over. Screwing his team over? Is this deal so good that he'd be a fool to pass it up? Screwing your team over is what he did with the Tejada deal where they could have had say, Santana and Aybar from the Angels and saved money by getting rid of his salary before the Mitchell report came out. This, to my eyes, is an ok deal for Bedard. It does what the O's need it to do. But it's not the best deal in history, and it's not a deal that won't be there in a little bit, and it's not a deal that couldn't be almost matched somewhere else in the next couple days/weeks if the O's wanted to look elsewhere. DBAHO
If I was Andy MacPhail, why would you even bother being a GM with Baltimore. Any attempts you make to rebuild are going to be futile, because Angelos is not going allow for his "favorite" players to be dealt. It's a wonder they were actually able to dump Tejada for a decent package (well that and because Ed Wade is not a very bright GM). Could the O's do better? Possibly. If I was going to trade Bedard to them, I'd ask for either Clement or Balentian as that other prospect along with Jones. I guess Seattle fans are just anxious to not give up on Jones either because; A - They have a gaping hole at RF now that Jose Guillen has moved on. B - He's their best young prospect, and they probably love him as we once loved Chris Young (and look at the player he's become). C - Their offense is pretty bad. If Jones goes, they'll need to scramble to find a RF.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) He won't? They won 88 games last season, didn't lose much, and added Bedard and Silva to go along with Felix. There is no reason to think Seattle can't go head to head with the Halos. I'd agrue that the Mariners ridiculously over-achieved. They lost Jose Guillen too and Jone's was slated to replace him (if the rumored trade ends up going down). The Angels got better (even if it was by giving up horrid contracts) and have an improved offense as well as one of the deepest pitching staffs I've seen in a long time (they go 7 deep). Plus the Angels flat out know how to win. That said the Mariners did win 88 games and Silva should be very good in that big park, Bedard will be nasty there and King Felix (if healthy) will only be better. That is a damn solid front 3 of the rotation.

Rotoworld has the O's getting Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio and Tony Butler. Its too bad we didnt have enough to offer Baltamore. I think Seattle is right up there in the AL power rankings now. Right now its probably in this order... Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, LA Angels, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Minnesota. Vance Law
If they are smart enough to pick up Bonds, Seattle could contend in the West. They have two legit aces now. They have one of the most dominant closers in the game. If they get league average pitching from their 3-4-5 (Batista/Washburn/Silva were 39-40 last year. 101/100/103 ERA+), they are well above .500.
