Aardsma Traded to Red Sox for 2 Minor Leaguers

Yeah the Cotts for Aardsma trade really didn't pay off did it.

For the 1st month and a half or so, Aardsma was our best reliever. And he was used frequently. After that, it just really fell apart.

It's a shame because the guy obviously has a good arm, but this is what his 4th team or in about the last 3 seasons. Don't know if he's ever going to live up to his talent level.

I really like the deal... Sounds like this Mota guy has a live arm. 2 pitching prospects (even if they aren't great) for Aardsma is a very good deal.

I never thought I'd live to see the day where you'd be applauding a move that KW made. I'm impressed.

^^^.

I was going to be pretty surprised if we couldn't pull off something like this, with as good of an arm as Aardsma has.

So, just in advance, who do we blame when AA turns his career around and they move Papelbon to the rotation to make room for him?

Why does someone always have to be "blamed"? Just because an athlete has talent, does that mean you hold onto him forever just waiting for it to show? No - you move on and do what's best for your club. If he ends up turning it around in Boston, more power to him. But does that mean KW should save a roster spot for him indefinitely? If Aardsma had gone out and done his job in 2007, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

this was a no brainer... KW does indeed makes moves I like, but he makes a lot that I despise as well.

Say what you will about our GM, but he's not afraid to make moves. I applaud that - too many GMs in sports are too busy sitting on their hands while their teams are missing the playoffs year in and year out. KW isn't afraid to shake things up and try different things, and I think that's good in the long run. It can be frustrating at times, though, that's for sure.

It was a joke.

He isn't afraid to make a move, but more then once has that move been a bonehead one.

I think it's actually kind of interesting to consider the comparison. Yes, sometimes KW's moves turn out horrendous, sometimes they turn out OK, and sometimes they turn out amazing. If KW is doing that and all he's doing is increasing the variance of his team's record by gambling, whereas other teams play it safer with the guys they're comfortable with, then KW is going to produce some terrible seasons, but in exchange you're going to get some seasons where just by random chance things work and everything comes together.

I don't care who it is on this board, but KW and his staff know more about baseball than we do. There are many reasons why he trades for or trades away players and I honestly believe that he is doing it to improve the ballclub. Either now or in the future. I can't fault the man for that. For the most part, his trades have either worked out or been a wash. Don't argue with me...there are plenty of threads arguing this point. Anyway, I'd much rather have KW than Bill Stoneman.

Looks like this Willy Mota kid might be the one we hope for makes it. Great arm, (95+ mph) nothin much on secondary pitches yet. Sorta reminds me of Poreda in that aspect. (differences of course too)

Mota had over a 2.5 GB/FB ratio last year. If he can keep the ball in the park, that would bode well for his chances to make it in the Cell.

Best of luck to him, but glad he's gone.

Now get rid of MacDougal and Sisco please.

Sisco has an option year left as I understand it, which means he will open up at Charlotte as a starter. MacDougal is going to be a 5th/6th inning guy, and for his contract is worth betting on as a comeback candidate, especially when you look at the year to year volatility of relievers.

Methinks using someone's GB/FB ratio at A level to project their potential success at the Cell is jumping the gun a bit. The kid's a long way from being at a level where those predictions and trends become relevant.
