Harry Chappas
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) I was going to say Pierre Chang's daughter, but that can't be right since we've seen her father before. Yes but Dr. Chang also started this season off with a baby scene which later included Daniel.......... What is Lepdius role in 1977 as he did not flash but maybe it was only the Oceanic 6 that could flash and thus another reason why Ben didn't as well. Soxbadger
A theory I heard and tend to believe is that there is a "law of physics" that won't allow the same person to occupy the same time/space. So, Ben didnt flash back because the 10 year old version of him is in 1977 on the island. So, that would mean a younger version of Sun is on the island as well. An interesting theory. Do you mean that they cant be on the island at the same time as themselves? The problem with this would be that during one of the time flashes, Locke flashed to when the hatch opened, meaning that Locke flashed to a time where he already existed on the island. Sawyer also flashed and saw Kate I believe. I think the reason why some of them did not travel in time is that they were not a "proxy" for some one, and only proxies could flash. fathom
After what seemed like 2 straight seasons of excellent episodes, the whole getting back to the island and the consequences has bored the crap out of me. Let's hope things pick up again.

Soxbadger
In regards to Locke, he was dead so im not sure that the rules apply. Also perhaps its you only went back in time if your proxy was in the past, Christian was in the present, so Locke stayed there as well. As to the time theory, I at first thought that they were making a rule that you could not exist in the same time/space as past you. When Charlotte flashed and died I figured that was why (that she flashed to a time/place where she existed), but it just doesnt seem to be consistent as some did not even experience negative side effects when being in the same time as themselves. As faraday said you cant change the past, and the universe has a way of course correcting itself. Exactly. But how does he stay alive is the question. I was thinking maybe Richard saves him but think they were still inside the Dharma bounderies. We'll see.

As best as I can tell, Desmond gave up because Mrs Hawkings told him he couldnt change the past. To my knowledge, a major time line changing event has never been attempted. 3E8
I wonder if Sawyer, Juliette, and Jin have been aging since the Island stopped skipping in the 70s
SouthsideDon48
Wow, awesome episode. I'm starting to wonder whether we're gonna be in for a surprise on when they say stuff like "you can't change the past". I'm starting to think they mean that you can't change the past if it already happened, but... if you're in the past then you ARE the past and thus, in the present and can change the present. dunno if that makes sense... dasox24
I really thought Sayid was going to kill Ben after last week's episode, but as this episode went on, I started thinking I was wrong... then BOOM! Ben gets shot. I have no idea where they're going to take this now if Ben really died b/c how the hell could he be living in the present with Sun and the gang? I have to assume Ben doesn't die. StrangeSox
I'm surprised they showed a grown man shooting a child in the chest on prime time. This was definitely a much stronger ending than last week.

maggsmaggs
Maybe in the next episode, something will happen to Big Ben. Then, the universe will have corrected itself.
Kyyle23
Maybe nobody ever dies on the island, thus Ben survives and has quite a bit of bitterness in him growing up
Steve9347
The action that just occurred obviously happened to big Ben in his past. He's been shot. Whoopteedoo. One thing I've learned is that you can never trust that someone is dead on Lost. However, to dispute a previous post (KYLE!)... people do die on the island (see Mr. Ecko, Charlie, Boone, Anna Lucia, Shannon, Ethan, Russeau, Libby, etc etc). This does not mean Ben is dead, though. Tiny Ben will be alive, though they will make us believe he's not, and eventually we'll see that, duh, if Big Ben is still kickin', then Tiny Ben sure didn't die. Some have, some people seem to die and come back later(that russian guy comes to mind, cant remember his name, with the scarred face. dude was shot, blown up, etc and kept coming back for more) I know people have died, but the island seems to have something going on in regards to a fountain of youth and long life spans that arent really explained
Soxbadger
You can change the past, I believe its been done before. When Ben moves the island and appears in Tunisia there is no camera at the location. When Locke goes back in time and sees Whidmore, then moves the island, there is a camera at the location. Now there is a slight chance that Whidmore decided to build the camera after Ben left but before Locke did, otherwise the future can be changed. My guess is that the reason that they are saying "You cant change the past" is the effect that takes place in the Simpsons' "Time and Punishment" episode. Once Homer has changed the past, he could never return to his future. Any future that he returned to would be different from the one that he originally knew. Thus, I think that they are telling people you cant change the past to prevent people from attempting too.
southsider2k5
I just had a thought... in keeping with the linear time line, is it possible that Sayid's shooting of Ben in the "past" is what serves as the trigger for turning him into an evil pyshcopath in the "present"?
