Phillies signed third baseman Pedro Feliz, who had been with the Giants, to a two-year, $8.5 million contract with an option for 2010.

Between the option and incentives, the deal could be worth as much as $15 million, which is amazing given that Feliz had to settle for a one-year contract last offseason. The Phillies apparently like his tremendous glove and 25-homer pop enough to live with horrendous on-base percentages. He's likely to hit seventh in the batting order, behind Geoff Jenkins, and should have plenty of RBI chances. With Feliz now the clear starter at third base, the Phillies figure to shop Wes Helms.

Official now.
