SoxAce
Hawk was on ESPN radio bout a week ago and even HE said Detroit is better. Pretty decent interview. Hopefully Contreras has the whole divorce situation resolved and pitch well for us this season.
greg775
Wouldn't you all agree the odds of us making the playoffs right now are about 30 percent? The odds are greater of us finishing last than first? It's going to take a year of every player being an overachiever as well as Oz Coop and Walker working some magic. Is this team capable of such bonding together or are the Sox going to be clones of the dreadfully mopey Bulls?
Balta1701
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Wouldn't you all agree the odds of us making the playoffs right now are about 30 percent? Is this team capable of such bonding together or are the Sox going to be clones of the dreadfully mopey Bulls? In this division/league, you better have a lot of confidence to say that the White Sox have a 30% chance of making the playoffs at this point. But you could say the same thing about any team except the Yankees and Red Sox. Once you get past the 25% chance, then you're actually expressing confidence in your chances for most of these team.s

Chet Lemon
''The kids are going to be fine,'' Williams said when asked about his starting rotation. ''The key is going to be Jose Contreras. If Jose Contreras throws the ball the way we think he's going to throw the ball, we've got a chance.'' http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox10.article I have criticized KW in the past, but I have never been one of the carping critics that now seem to grow in number every day. This quote really disappoints me though. The team having a chance is dependent on Contreras throwing the ball well? That is key? Maybe I am pessimistic, but I cannot see how that will happen. Granted, I think he will likely pitch very well for about a month; maybe he'll be the Cy Young candidate if the season ended in May. Based on the numbers/trends I have looked at, I do not see Contreras being able to handle the rigors of a full season.

The Ginger Kid
why is Sisco mentioned as a contender for a bullpen spot - weren't they trying to stretch him out into a starter down in Charlotte? Wasn't the same true with Masset?
southsider2k5
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) why is Sisco mentioned as a contender for a bullpen spot - weren't they trying to stretch him out into a starter down in Charlotte? Wasn't the same true with Masset? I think the Sox envision Sisco as a reliever, but they want him to work on his secondary pitches, and on his consistant release point, which is why they are having him start. They are trying to give him the repititions he missed after being buried in the Royal pen as a Rule V pick.
