i think people would be surprised how much casual fans love the home run calls and catch phrases of Hawk. More than that, I know division rivals hate hawk when they have to listen to his broadcasts, but here at Mizzou, people I've met that have listened to sox games love hawk.

And he's been the announcer since I was a kid. Good or bad it's part of the experience.

Hawk makes the games less exciting. Zzzzz...As far as tone, personality, and commentary DJ and Hawk have to be one of the most boring duos in baseball. I pity those fans who has worse.

Hawk might be Sox baseball, but he also detracts people from watching or listening. I mean, look how many die hard Sox fans here dislike him. I can't imagine common viewers would like him. At least Hughes keeps Santo in check. DJ is not capable of this, and at times the broadcast is just unbearable. Hawk is fine in small bits, but listening to him for 3 hours is painful at times.

Why Stone is not in the Sox booth is beyond me. He is far more interesting and far more objective. At least to me...

I think Stone is happy doing whatever he wants in regards to baseball right now. Sometimes he is on the radio calling games, sometimes he calls into the Score, in the summer he hosts on the Score, and he doesnt have to travel with any team. Last year he was asked many times about doing the White Sox and Cubs exclusively and he continued to repeat the same mantra "Im happy doing what I am doing".

I just think he was burned out with the way the Cubs had treated him at the end and wanted a break until he felt like getting back into it.

I know I for one was at a party on the first night of the world series in 05 and I did the full call for both Crede and JD's homers in that game.

He also gets national attention doing games on ESPN from time to time.

I think he's been burnt out from the rigid working schedule of team announcing work.

I always enjoyed Hawk until he dropped the "s" out of his phrase "He's Gone" about 4 years ago. I hate hearing him constantly say "He Gone" like a dribbling barbaric moron. It is in large part what many have used against me as an additional point to the argument that anything related to the south side of Chicago is of low intelligence.

I also hate that he constantly feeds Mariotti's publicity by complaining about him on the air.

I did go to school in Minnesota though, and I did turn on the TV in the public lounge at school for the Sox because I could watch the WGN games and when the Twins fans (who usually don't know what they're talking about) sat down and watched part of it with me they would always complain and moan about how awful the Sox announcers were and how much dead air there was. Although most of the time they were taking out their hatred for the Sox on our announcers, I do have to agree with them in comparison to the Twins guys. Bert Blyleven and Bremer are much more energetic and talk a whole lot more. Before watching the Twins on TV for several years I had no idea the Sox guys had so much silence in their broadcasts but its true. However, I still feel like Hawk is the Sox for me and has been since I was young, so keep it up.

I like most on here do have to say that despite our quarrels with parts of Hawk's style, it would not be the same without Harrelson. "You can put it on the board, YES!" is so classic that I just can't imagine what could replace that as the WS home run call.

This is another thing I love. Where else do you see that in antiseptic MLB? Hawk just harping on Mariotti and calling a douchebag a douchebag.

as much as everyone doesn't like him.........he is white sox baseball to me. I can't imagine watching a game and not having hawk talk about catfish hunter.

I would like to know how many people liked Hawk when he was with Wimpy vs Hawk when he is with DJ. To me, Hawk and Wimpy was the glory years for Hawk. he always seemed to have a good time with Wimpy(of course until the end) and he was never as argumentative(at least that I noticed). Now he just seems to get crotchity(sp?) and wants to tell DJ how right he is about everything. I dunno, maybe it is the age gap between the two that throws off the dynamic.

+1

Hawk and Wimpy had excellent chemistry. Hawk and DJ do not.
