Controlled Chaos
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Hawk has always been a homer, and he has always been a guy who has nicknamed players. Thats not my issue with Hawk. Hell if he just kept to that he would be just fine. Its what he has recently turned into. The constant b****ing on the TV about how all of the umps have a personal vendetta with the sox is a disgrace. His start of the home run call only to watch the CF come in a few steps to catch an easy fly ball is almost Santo like. His new catch phrase of Daggumit and then 10 minute tirade on how all of the outs we had were crushed crisp line drives, and how the opposition had duck farts that just found the one space that the sox were not is also too much. His tit for tat thing with Kotex boy is over played. Comparing Hawk to Santo is a bit much in my opinion. I don't mind the stretch calls. When there is a ball that's hit deep, aren't you wishing it's gone? I know I am...and so is Hawk, it's just that he has the mic. Yeah, he is wrong many times...and I don't know about you, but so am I. He doesn't constantly b**** about the umps and he doesn't constantly go on 10 minute tirades about sox outs and their outs. I have never heard him mention the sox line drive outs and the other teams seeing eye singles or duck snorts when it wasn't accurate. He doesn't say it just to say it...he says it when it happens. People exaggerate the s*** out of what Hawk does. I also don't mind the Kotex s***. Marriotti has his medium and Hawk has his. I enjoy having someone stick up for the team...right or wrong it gives two sides to the story. Daggumit....not my particular choice of word, but then again my choice wouldn't be allowed on the air. There may be better announcers out there, but Hawk isn't nearly as bad as he's made out to be and with a better color guy, he's dam good. And Jack Brickhouse was the biggest homer I ever heard. He was all all about the cuckin' Fubs.
Hatchetman
I seriously would not trust the Sox to pick a replacement for Hawk. Remember Gary Thorne doing our games?
knightni
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) I think Harry Caray Sr would be a good replaceemnt though, if and when the Hawk leaves. Isn't he dead? You mean Skip Caray? That guy is annoying.
Steve9347
QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 07:25 AM) That will take him to age 69. You can put it on the board ... wheeze! I would have guessed he was already older than that.
sircaffey
Hawk makes the games less exciting. Zzzzz...As far as tone, personality, and commentary DJ and Hawk have to be one of the most boring duos in baseball. I pity those fans who has worse. Hawk might be Sox baseball, but he also detracts people from watching or listening. I mean, look how many die hard Sox fans here dislike him. I can't imagine common viewers would like him. At least Hughes keeps Santo in check. DJ is not capable of this, and at times the broadcast is just unbearable. Hawk is fine in small bits, but listening to him for 3 hours is painful at times. Why Stone is not in the Sox booth is beyond me. He is far more interesting and far more objective. At least to me...

TheBigHurt
Where's he gonna play? Although he can be senile, I've always loved Hawk's calling of the game, his enthusiasm and his character. I'm going to love hearing Hawk as long as he will be broadcasting. 4 MORE YEARS! 4 MORE YEARS! I wish I had Photoshop. I'd make a Hawk '08 campaign banner just for laughs! Vance Law
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Hawk makes the games less exciting. Zzzzz...As far as tone, personality, and commentary DJ and Hawk have to be one of the most boring duos in baseball. This I don't get at all. I like that Hawk is a unique original character who has his own voice, lingo, and manner of speaking. I don't hear that anywhere else. Every other announcer I hear is a generic, flavorless broadcasTOR dronebot with broadcasTOR voice. Also, John Miller on ESPN screaming "ssaaaafe!!" on a close play, using that fake umpire voice is the worst thing in baseball since Vince Coleman got caught by the tarp machine. EvilJester99
Gary Thorne is pretty good with Hockey... but he tries to make every play seem like a huge play... I wouldn't want him covering the Sox though. Edited February 6, 2008 by EvilJester99

CanOfCorn
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) Totally agreed. He should add to my enjoyment of the broadcast, not take away from it. He's gone way downhill over the past 2 seasons. Listen to Lewin and Cheek for the Rangers or Brown and the other guy from the Astros. OH...MY...GOD!!!! You want boring. Great for a nap. Hawk IS White Sox Baseball. Who else has been connected to the team longer besides Reinsdorf and the board? Not too many and certainly not as much in the public. The White Sox need a big personality because of their inferiority complex of being the "Second" team in the Second City. I will be sad when he's gone but I'm glad we have him for for 4 more years...especially since I'm moving back to the city.

Very very flat.
Leonard Zelig
How many Hawk haters have actually listened to other announcers for any period of time? I live out of town and get most of my games on MLB Extra Innings, so I get about a 50/50 mix of Hawk/DJ and opponents' guys. I'm not saying Hawk's the greatest, but we could be doing a lot worse. max power
I don't think the white sox can risk changing the broadcasting team at this time. Maybe after a year where they at least win the division.
