YASNY
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Yeah, he was obviously targeting any and all forms of evangelical conservatives that would listen in that speech, almost to the point of going overboard. Problem is, if he runs again, Mike Huckabee will still very possibly be there, and he's going to beat a mormon for the evangelical vote every time. That will be a distinct advantage for Huckabee, that's for certain.
whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) Don't write off Huck yet. The conservatives now have one candidate to work with instead of two. Yeah, if he gets Romney's delegates, it's not over yet. The problem is, I don't think there are enough evangelical dominated states left for Huckabee, even if he's the one and only candidate to work with now. Texsox
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Which speaks volumes! I was backing him in 2000 on that side of the ticket. Now to get Obama nominated and then I don't care who wins.

The conservatives now have one candidate to work with instead of two. Good point, but he'd need Romney to support him. On one hand, I can see Romney doing what is best for the conservative movement by endorsing Huckabee. On the other, I can't see him doing so when Huckabee wouldn't step aside for him as the conservative frontrunner. Will be interesting.

Rex Kickass
Romney was done pouring his money into a sinkhole of a campaign and the realization that he couldn't spend enough in a three way race to win enough of the conservative vote. Given that McCain sent his delegates to Huckabee, and I'm guessing convinced Thompson to stay in through South Carolina to siphon enough votes away from Romney to give him that win, that Romney hates McCain more than anyone else in that field. Texsox
This has inspired me. Looking over the voting, I am withdrawing from the race as funniest poster.
southsider2k5
It is an interesting move, because now it gives the right wing someone to get behind. Even if Huckabee isn't their choice, they like him a whole lot better than McCain.

Rex Kickass
Unless they want another 1964. There's a sense among a lot of Conservatives that the party needs another Goldwater moment.

FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) Except that Huckabee would be destroying in a general. I doubt the mainline GOP wants Huckabee to be the nominee. I'm sure that is true, but the fractured modern Republican party is never going to be able to throw behind one candidate. The hawks are beind McCain and the social conservatives are going to largely back Huckabee. Who the majority of fiscal conservatives and traditional GOP fall in with is the interesting question. Unfortunately (from the Dem perspective), that's likely to be McCain because he's vastly more electable in the general election.

Controlled Chaos
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) And was completely inaccurate. And YASNY, your correct it's irreelvant what he said since he's not the nominee, but it was still very strange and Democrats will remember this speech if he runs again in 2012, which I think he will. I think if he gave this speech 2 months ago he might still be in it.

southsideirish71
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) This is the moment Ron Paul has been waiting for. You know another internet money bomb post will be here soon. Then we will ask why is Kucinich, sorry I mean Paul, is still in the race. Then we will get a few Sheep pics and maybe the typical "Well you don't know Ron". After this we will get the usual " I suggest you go to his site and sign up for his Election Pod. once you receive the pod in the mail, sleep on it the following night. Once you wake up, you will feel fresh and new and not like your old self. You will be able to give all to Ron Paul. He only has 14 more million dollars to go to take 3rd place. The 3 delegates he has are frisky and cant wait to bring the message of paul to the convention. Hail Ron Paul leader of the universe."

It is the best way for those factions of the party to have a voice. It is a bit of tilting at windmills, but I believe both parties should hear what all their members are thinking. Not only that, one of our own SoxTalkers is openly advocating for and condoning this activity. Time to stock up on the heavy duty tinfoil now and keep the political parties out of my head.
