Rex Hudler
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) The post about Butler might be the most pathetic thing you'll find in this thread. Want to beat them? PLAY DEFENSE!! I watched the game, and at least 3/4 of the 3 point shots Butler made were unguarded. Nobody to blame but yourself there buddy. I was impressed by Arizona tonight. They did lose in OT at Kansas, but they gave a really good team (even without Collins) a hell of a game and actually tried on defense, which is rare for the Wildcats. As for Indiana, last night made clear what is obvious already: they go as far as Eric Gordon takes them and aren't good enough to beat NCAA Tourney calibur teams unless EJ plays really well. They will win the very weak Big 10, but I don't like their chances in March unless EJ gets on a Carmelo-esque hot streak at the right time. You may be right, but I am not buying your assessment of Indiana. Bassett shot 4-13 (1-7 3's), Ellis was 5-12 with several shots in and out, Crawford was 3-13. Four players had four fouls. There were a lot of things that could have gone right last night with Gordon struggling that would have kept IU in the game or given them a chance to win. I do think they looked a little lost as Gordon struggles and I don't think they utilize DJ enough in the offense. I think they dribble too much and don't space the floor well when they do, making many of their "dishes" into tight spots. Those are all things that should improve. There is no doubt Gordon is option #1, but there is enough talent to enable them to win games when he struggles. They just have to figure out how to make that happen. That's what early season games are for.

They seem to think early on this season that they can just run people out of the gym with their offense, which won't always be the case. If they defend and rebound for 40 minutes every game (which they did last year IMO), they will be a legit top 10 team in the nation. But as Lute Olsen will tell you, when you have a team that talented, getting them to buy in and do the little things is easier said than done. They are good at defense for the first 10 seconds or at going for steals, but if they don't get the steal they are chasing, which usually leads to a wide open shot. Believe it or not, they actually outrebounded Xavier (I was shocked too). I think it is safe to say that Xavier certainly made more of their rebounds though. This is a young team that has the opportunity to be very good. But they are not very good yet.
whitesoxfan101
SIU is always going to do what they do, but there are nights where your opponents are going to score points and their lack of offensive power with Young and Tatum gone is scary right now. I know they have a lot of younger guys playing and they will find their roles, but damn you have to score SOME points to win games.
Palehosefan
There's no defense of 22-25 foot 3 pointers run off of a weave. If you can make the shot 16-24 times, then you are going to win. But they will shoot themselves out of games as well. Always good to count on 101 for guidance on each program in America :-P.
JuiceCruz16
The ACC is off to another lead in the big ten / ACC challenge. The ACC is 7-0 so far in this competition, and I doubt that this year will be any different, but who knows. I just hope Ty Lawson does not have any lingering affects from his turned ankle. I'm not sure if he will play against O. State Wed., if there is any doubt rest him!!! I see now that Roy said that he will play, but he won't be 100% he estimated anywhere freom 70 to 90%, and said that frazier and Q will have to continue to pick up added time while Ty is banged up. Soxbadger
Its been weird here to hear the ESPN announcers giving Wisconsin a chance at Cameron Indoor tonight. I dont know if they can win, Duke usually gets a lot of calls and Wisconsin usually gets a lot of calls. The problem is tonight I think Duke will get the majority of calls and Wisconsin is not going to have its "Wisconsin makes more ft's than the other team takes." If Wisconsin can control the glass and Hughes can play well, Wisconsin definitely has a chance. If Wisconsin gets in foul trouble, Hughes plays like he did against Georgia for the first half, Wisconsin could lose by double digits.
thedoctor
indiana's jordan crawford suspended for a violation of team rules. various reports say it is for three games, or indefinite. also, depaul dismissed sophomore thijin moses from the program. That's how much this team means to me. I was VERY dissapointed in SIU's performance. USC was taken to the edge by my freakin Alma Mater, Miami U, that doesnt speak very highly of how good of a team they are.
whitesoxfan99
IU is solid in the backcourt and DJ is very good but their frontcourt outside of DJ White is horrendous. That is likely going to keep them from doing anything that special this year.
Soxbadger
So instead of switching to Winscosin Duke, we are going to get to watch free throws for the next 5 minutes and Indiana undoubtedly win. Great call, they should switch back if it gets to 1 possession but come on.

whitesoxfan99
It sucks but Duke is really good again. Also, I'm not sure if I missed something but why isn't Landry getting minute for Wisky? They badly need to get more athletes in the game.
Jenksismyhero
When was the last time Duke actually played a meaningful game in the big ten challenge on the road? They played Illinois on a neutral court 5-6 years ago, and they played a crappy Indiana team a few years ago. Seriously though, have the EVER been on the road against a good team? CWSGuy406
Dear Bucky -- Thanks for making our four-point loss to Duke look a lot better. Please don't lose before the 8th as we want our win that night to be somewhat meaningful. Thanks again. - Marquette Edited November 28, 2007 by CWSGuy406
Soxbadger
Not only is Wisconsin sucking on offense, Duke is shooting well from 3. Basically this is Wisconsin;s worse nightmare, a well coached team that is more athletic. Height means nothing because they cant contain the three and it actually is worst case scenario because Wisconsin does not really score in bunches. Atleast Duke is ponly shooting 5-17 from the field and my guess is that Wisconsin will just get more physical if they start losing more so perhaps Krabbenhoft can get into a scrum. Outside of that perhaps Duke would like to schedule a game at Camp Randall? Dear Marquette, Keep thinking that playing in Maui is the same as Cameron Indoor. And if you guys shoot as well as Duke from beyond 3, I have no doubt that you will kill Wisconsin... You guys have a lot of sharp shooters like that Taylor King right? farmteam
Decent win for IU tonight. Frankly, I thought Gordon had an off night, as he was forcing some bad passes and he lost more than a few dribbles, but if he scores 29 on an off night (admittedly he was better down the stretch) I'll take it. Three guys who impressed me tonight: Lance Stemler (hit some clutch shots), Jamarcus Ellis, and Mike White. Ellis was solid as usual, and despite not having very good stats, I think White played fairly well, and didn't make any mistakes.
Soxbadger
And thats why Wisconsin is playing soft. If they play physical Duke flops all over and its a foul.
