I expected the Miami of Ohio loss, but to lose to that team, who was well below .500 and needed a last second rally to beat 1-11 Eastern Illinois a few weeks ago?? Anybody who was stupid enough to still support Weber just lost whatever mythical leverage they had, he might be the worst coach of a significant high major in the nation right now. Illinois won't even be a significant high major in a couple years though, unless Weber is fired. What a sad situation, conference play is going to be a bloodbath. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the best college basketball team in the state right now is Illinois State, and I don't even think it's close when you look at what they did in Omaha last night.

just to put it into perspective.

1) TSU is in the OVC. The OVC is currently ranked 31st (dead last) in conference RPI.

2) TSU's RPI prior to this game = 246.

3) TSU's only Division I victory prior to this game was a two-point win over a historically bad Eastern Illinois team (currently last place in the nation in RPI).

The best perspective I can put is my own personal one. Everybody knows that I am an NIU student, and yesterday I did some work at and watched our game courtside. We entered the game with a 2-9 record, we have a new coach, we have a roster bereft of talent due to previous coach Rob Judson being an idiot, and it'll probably take us until 2009-2010 to really get any good (Patton is recruiting really well, I think we'll turn it around between that and our great facilities). Anyways, we played and defeated an Arkansas Little Rock team that is WAY better than TSU by a 59-55 score. UALR had an RPI right about 100 coming into yesterday, was 9-2, and had a top 10 defense nationally. And they play in a much better conference than TSU does as well.

Can someone tell me the record of Weber without Self's recruits?

Man, I don't even like the Illini, but you're pretty unbearable with the Illinois bashing, aren't you? :P (not that it isn't warranted in this instance, I'm just making a comment from the sidelines here)

Too damn bad and I love it!

I heard too many Illini fans declaring Weber god's gift to coaching, hell, some said Frazier was the next Dee Brown.

Any fan that bashes Illinois basketball is in their right. Most Illini fans were unbearable in their love for Bruce, to the point where some STILL defend him. This to me is like the football program under Turner circa 2003 right now though, we're one great coaching hire away from returning to prominence. The problem is I don't know how long it will take us to fire the horrible coach and if the new guy will be any good. We got lucky with football, hopefully whenever the Weber era mercifully ends, the same occurs. Oh, and not all Illini fans have loved "BAM" forever, there are some of us who were concerned in November of 2004 when we signed a class of an offensive linemen, a 2 star PG with a 2nd best offer of College of Charleston, and a spot up shooting specialist (and hell, he turned out to be a felon).

Well, we got trashed by UNLV tonight to say the least. Still, 10-2 isn't that bad a way to start the non-conference season, especially given the talent this team has. It's a bit disheartening to have lost the two games that actually were challenges, but each were on the road against good teams, so its not the worst thing in the world.

And hey, at least we're not losing to teams like San Diego.

If Weber didn't have the 09 guys coming plus Richmond and basically Head for 2010 he would be as good as gone. The 06 class is when I really started getting concerned. 2005 class was very weak, but I liked and still like Jamar as a player and Chester would be fine if he was playing the role he should be in of a 10-15 mpg hustle guy who plays great D. Never saw CJ play but he actually was a top 150 player and dominated Kovortney (sp?) Barber in HS, thought he could maybe be a solid rebounder and defensive player potentially (obviously didn't work out). 05 class would not have killed the program if Weber would have capitalized on the final 4 run and landed guards in 06. Scheyer, Conley, Collins, Beverley were all guys in that class who were interested in Illinois that Weber missed on. Not landing a single guard in 06 is what killed this team. He gets a PG in that class and gets Beverley there are really no problems with the program. How you don't get a guard in that class is still beyond me. I always try to be optimistic about the future of my teams, (during and after games when I am pissed off not so much), so for me at least it was more hope that we would remain a very strong program. The talent is already in the pipeline for Illinois to return to the top of the Big 10 or else I would be calling for Weber's head and this season would be much harder to take. I'm far from happy with the state of the program (more like pissed off) but every school goes through down periods and it sure looks like we will be very good again soon, although the 09 class does seem very far away at this time. Until Legion is eligible next year Illinois will likely be painful to watch.

On this years team, Chester simply should not be playing the minutes he gets. Outside of recruiting my one big criticism of Weber is his stubborness with his use of players. Against a zone where is Cole? He can shoot and pass. Chester clearly has somehow regressed and has no business being on the court 30+ minutes. Weber's treatment of Chester mirrors Zook's treatment of Halsey last year. Guys who obviously have no business in their roles yet the coach continues to back them inexplicably. I just don't get it. Pruitt is selfish and the next time he refuses to pass the ball out of the post if I'm Weber I bench him. This season is lost, play the freshmen, and get them prepared for the future. I would much rather watch Davis, Tisdale, and McCamey out there then the upperclassmen.

Somehow FSU beat Georgia Tech despite only having 6 scholarship players on the team. Two transfered (Blake, Breeden), two are injured (Alabi: ankle/shin; done for season, Vaughn: irregular heartbeat; out indefinetley), and one is suspended (Ryan Reid). We only have one big man left on the team (Echefu) besides Reid, but Reid won't be back until the Duke game. I'm in for a rough conference season.
