Who has said that IU is a great team? It certainly has not been me. I don't recall greasy stating that.

What I have said, and I still stand by it, is that IU CAN BE a great team. Today is the first game this season where they have had a full squad available to them. It will take time for them to gel and their best basketball SHOULD be ahead of them. They do have the pieces necessary to be a very good team, if not a great one.

Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.

Almost as much as Illinois fans whine every game about the officiating, if that is possible.

As I said that post was somewhat in jest as a lot of players complain a ton about officiating and Gordon was whining a ton after he got called for a foul 25 ft from the basket. Pruitt is as bad as they come as he was pouting throughout the game today.

I do complain a lot about officials during Illinois games, this is the only game this year I thought they negatively affected the outcome for us. We may not have won anyways but there were some embarrassing bad calls today. The ball was clearly off IU with 50 seconds left and they give it to IU. At the very least since they had no idea who it was off of that needs to be a jump ball (not sure who would have gotten the ball). Ratliff basically punching Brock in the face and not getting an intentional foul. MEacham literally not touching Ratliff and getting called for a foul and then on the rebound of a miss from the FT line an Illinois player gets pushed to the floor with no call. I'm sure we got calls as well over the course of the game, but nothing like those.

I also complain about officiating across the board, not just in games involving Illinois. Big 10 officials flat out suck at their jobs. I know it not an easy sport to officiate but there is no consistency and refs are constantly making calls when out of position. There have been games over the last couple of years where I thought Illinois was helped by the officials, and I still say the officiating sucked. Xavier game from the UC immediately comes to mind.

I'll admit that that out of bounds call was horrible (clearly went off an IU player's leg, I think it was D.J.), but you can't say there weren't a ton of calls that went the Illini's way as well.

As to the chanting of "Shut up Weber:" Classless? Maybe. But, as has been pointed out, it's the same thing you'd see at any other arena in the nation.

All in all, Illinois played better than I expected, and IU played possibly the worst they have all season.

That type of stuff doesn't bother me. It is more fun when fan bases actually come up with something clever though.

I believe their ranking implies many believe they are a great team, regardless of whether anyone here said it. Personally, I'm leaning away from this team after some lackluster showings recently. Like Michigan State they will suffer (but win more) because the Big Ten is so bad. I think it will cost them in the tourney. As it stands Indiana looks like a fringe Sweet 16 team, which would be a great step for Indiana basketball. Indiana has not performed like an elite program in recent years and need this season (being Gordon's only) to be a good one to get back there.

probably wants to transfer to a team that will make the tourney once in his years at school.

Yeah he's clearly going to transfer after his junior year. But surprising that you wouldn't know that.

just watched the SC highlight, the last 10 seconds of the illinois showed Weber's true coaching delight....bunch of players running around with no purpose.

Just quoting this so you can't edit it to avoid looking like a total moron...which you've proven plenty.

I haven't been around to know, but what does Jimbo do when Kansas bows out of the tournament early and predictably? Guess it doesn't matter really, he clearly gets more joy out of seeing Illinois lose than Kansas winning.

You clearly do have a lot of fun with Illinois fans...I mean at least give reasoning for your horrible shots at them.

And I'm not an Illinois fan.

It's a defense mechanism.

If the refs didn't give Kansas the Sweet 16 game last year, Jimbo would of gotten buried by Justin and myself. :D

Illinois plays close with a team way better than them, loses due to missed free throws, Illini fans think the refs are the reason the game went the way it did. Same stuff, different game, just like it will be when Illinois finds a way to lose to a brutal Michigan team coming up next. Pathetic, the Illini have mastered playing to the level of their competition, and always finding a way to lose regardless.

We aren't playing that style this year. That's one of our problems. Except Carlton Fay.

I don't think it is the reason we lost. IU is better and they had to play poorly and Illinois had to play well for the game to be close. Those calls absolutely did affect the game. Talent is the real reason IU won today, but that doesn't change the fact that the officiating was awful (which is par for the course in the Big 10).
