Duke has been the most impressive team this year. I hate them but have to respect what they have done. Any list of top teams that does not include Duke is just blatantly putting emotions in front of fact.

I dont know how anyone can "love" a match up with Duke considering Duke has been shooting the three insanely and that is a recipe for a disaster. Id rather not go into a game with my chances of winning coming down to the whether the other team misses shots.

As a Wisconsin fan, Id much rather play UCLA, Kansas, or Memphis than Duke, but thats just my opinion.

Illinois did pretty well with it in '04-'05.

We put up 92 on Northwestern yesterday in Evanston. I would say it was impressive, but it's Northwestern. Still, a win is a win, especially when you've been on a rough streak like the Gophers had.

NU is probably one of the worst defensive teams in the NCAA. They can't stop big guys with any kind of ability, they can't rebound, and they can't cover 3-pointers. That makes for a lot of ugly results.

I like the matchup because with a strong point like Lawson who had 20 assist and 1 turnover in the last 4 games the Duke Dee won't force the turnovers they depend on. Without that Carolina's frontline dominates Duke night in night out and Lawson will add penetration kick outs, easy fastbreak points, etc. to help Ellington/Green get looks. It's a great matchup with Lawson in; I LOVE the matchup. Duke can shoot lights out and lose anyway, hell they did last night and UNC hung with 3rd string Q running the show. Give me Duke way before G'town, UCLA, Memphis, Kansas, or maybe even Tennesee against NC at least. Without Ty I don't like any of those matchups, and many others as well, including Duke.

Not sure if I should put this in the recruiting thread but I'll put it in here since he's already on campus, but I finally got a chance to see Justin Bocot play...um wow. He good.

JB is a freak of nature at basketball, and such a hard worker. He's done everything he can to get to SIU and play next year! I cannot wait til im down in th C'dale next year to watch all these guys play. Still got the rest of the season though. Salukis, please win in Omaha! I H8 Cr8on!

Yeah, that's why I couldn't say it was impressive. I'm actually kind of upset that the Gophers let up 72 points, but again, a win is a win :P

Two points:

1. I am already embarassed at tonight's events in Champaign, and they haven't even happened yet. Gordon changed his mind after IU got a new coach, and went to a better team since this is the only year he'll be in college anyways. That, and Weber couldn't recruit until Jerrance Howard arrived.

2. Anybody mad at Eric Gordon and who is an Illinois fan is a hypocrite. Illinois signed four players yesterday who decommited from other schools. All teams in NCAA football and basketball benefit and are hurt by decommits, just the way it is in today's world.

3. I think it will be funny if the Illini beat Indiana.

Oh it'd be funny, but it won't happen. This team can't beat Penn State, Miami of Ohio, or Tennessee State at home, so they certainly won't beat IU. It'll be close for a while as always, but talent (IU) will prevail.

I am very worried about how the fans will act, this could be awfully embarassing. I just hope if Russell Ellington and Supo Sanni are berated when Illinois plays at Iowa in 2009, that the Illini fans are consistent and understand that is expected since they verballed to Iowa at first. It AMAZES me how dumb Illini fans are being about this, and actually it makes me kind of sad as a very longtime follower and fan.

In an environment like tonight, all it will take is Gordon being rattled and the Illini can pull off an upset.

Indiana has seemed to have depth issues and if Pruit/Randle can disrupt White, it could be an interesting match up. Illinois has not done well this year, but a lot of their problems have been self inflicted.

Ill just go this far, it would not shock me if Illinois wins tonight.

Pretty pumped for the game tonight so I took a stroll over to the Illini board. It really sickens me that about 10 fans are seriously wishing for Gordon to have a career ending injury tonight. I'm glad that all the Illini fans here are very respectful. Good luck tonight and I really think IU will struggle tonight. Prove me wrong boys!

1. i'd wait until it is over to express embarrassment. generally i try to hold off on being red-faced until something really extreme happens. if the worst that happens is he gets booed and heckled, i won't be embarrassed at all. if the situation was reversed the same would happen any where. besides, i would bet that he and his family will have a better security detail (provided by illinois, btw) thank bin laden.

2. i won't now and never have been willing to use gordon as a crutch or explanation for this season's woes. weber's repeated misses before this year, not gordon, are the prime reasons for the fact that illinois sucks. that was just the cherry on top. at the same time, i don't see a huge similarity between basketball and football recruiting, so i'm not sure throwing the hypocrite label around is valid. i mean, how many situations happen like the gordon situation each year in college basketball? not many, if any. how many of those situations happen in college football each year? many. football and basketball recruiting are entirely different animals. if you want to try to argue it on a moral level, than you've totally lost me.

Which one? InsideIllini? I was reading that now and see nothing of that...

Actually, it's odd that there aren't even too many discussions on the game tonight. I wanted to read up on it.

Well, Oregon is still trying to get the egg off of their face for the treatment that Love got when UCLA came to town. It has been a pretty big black eye for the university, so I would think that Illinois officials have taken notice, and have tried to stay on top of the crowd going overboard. Love torched the Ducks that night though. Good for him! I dislike two teams IU & Duke so I'll root for the upset tonight, but I also hope EJ does well.

I don't know what board that is but those people are freakin' jokes.

agreed. thankfully the mods are deleting some of that yit.

anyone wishing harm or injury on gordon or his family is an absolute jackass, whoever they root for.

While you have some valid points, you are basically posting this because you hate Weber. Had this exact same situation happened with a coach who you liked, you'd change your tune and you damn well know it. To just give Gordon and Sampson a free pass on this is laughable. You act like Bruce made this happen. GMAFB.

Gordon deserves everything booing and heckling wise that he gets, as does Sampson. I'm not wishing injury or anything out of line on Gordon, but if it's hell for them to listen to all night, that's deserved, and to think it isn't is ignorant.

I'm glad you are so confident. I certainly am not.

Illinois plays tough defense and makes it hard for team's to play well on offense. IU has had a habit of getting discombobulated (sp?) on offense at times and with an extremely charged atmosphere tonight, I can certainly see it going the wrong way. I'd say my confidence level on tonight's game is 30%.

Agreed. If I were an Illini fan and in the stadium tonight, I'd be all over Gordon and Sampson. Of course I could do it in a reasonably classy way but that's me. Illini fans should try to make life hell on them and the rest of the team. I'm guessing tonight's comments will become much more personal that necessary, but if they are just words, so what. They're big boys, they'll get over it!

If not for the way we played you last time, I'd say we have no chance tonight. I'd say we have about a 25% chance to win this game, and if we do it'll be by less than 5 pts. On the other side of that coin, wouldn't shock me if we lost by 15, and that would be 'fitting'.
