He'd use up the whole night gossiping with the hitters and umpires." - Chicago White Sox Manager Al Lopez (1965) I came across this quote from El Senor about Pete Ward. I remember Pete as one of the White Sox true sluggers and real good 3Bmen of the 60's. Pete was involved in a car accident and hurt his back and never really regained his stature. 1967 he played third and first during the Great Pennant Race. I still remember listening to a Sox-Twins radio broadcast that year when Ward hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 8th off Dean Chance and the Sox won 3-2. The game was at Comiskey and the crowd roar was so deafening it drowned out the Twins broadcaster for quite awhile. Before the game became much more international, I thought it was cool that a guy born in Canada was playing Major League baseball ......... and for my favourite team. greg775 Posted February 14, 2008 Share Posted February 14, 2008 I used to mimic his unusual batting stance as a real little kid.
