Pete Ward by Al Lopez

"I'd make him (Pete Ward) a catcher, but we'd never get the game over with. He'd use up the whole night gossiping with the hitters and umpires." - Chicago White Sox Manager Al Lopez (1965)

I came across this quote from El Senor about Pete Ward. I remember Pete as one of the White Sox true sluggers and real good 3Bmen of the 60's. Pete was involved in a car accident and hurt his back and never really regained his stature. 1967 he played third and first during the Great Pennant Race. I still remember listening to a Sox-Twins radio broadcast that year when Ward hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 8th off Dean Chance and the Sox won 3-2. The game was at Comiskey and the crowd roar was so deafening it drowned out the Twins broadcaster for quite awhile. Just thought I'd share a moment in time with all you posters as we near 2008 baseball.

He was one of my favourites. Before the game became much more international, I thought it was cool that a guy born in Canada was playing Major League baseball ......... and for my favourite team.
