southsider2k5
http://mvn.com/mlb-redsox/2008/02/27/fredd...n-with-red-sox/ ormer Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Freddy Garcia made a brief appearance at the Red Sox’s spring training complex this morning. Garcia stopped in for an evaluation of his health, a sign that the Red Sox may be looking to beef up their pitching depth even more by inking the right-hander to a deal. The former All-Star earned $10 million last year and delivered exactly one win for the Phillies last year, causing the to-be NL East champions to struggle with pitching depth the entire year. He had shoulder surgery in August and finished 1-5 with a 5.90 ERA in 58 innings. The year previous he had went 17-9 with a 4.53 ERA in 216.1 IP for the White Sox. In 2005, he was a workhorse, hurling 228.0 IP of a 3.87 ERA en route to helping the White Sox win the World Series. For his career, he’s got a record of 117-76 with a 4.07 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 1,701.2 IP, 548 BB and 1,252 K. I’m more optimistic about Garcia helping the Red Sox this season than I am Colon, so I’m rooting for this signing. Hat tip to the Boston Herald. daa84
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Does Boston really need this many pitchers? the fact is that having option is never a bad thing....isnt a decent risk (especially for a big spending team like boston) to take a flier on guys like colon or garcia? pay em half a mil...throw em in AAA or give em a shot in the bigs...if htey stink cut em or let em rot in AAA...whats the risk? If Schilling is out for the season, then it can't hurt to have a couple other options. It's possible that Garcia, Colon, and Schilling could give you 20-30 starts together this season. Dick Allen
Supposedly they are taking pictures of his shoulder so they can take more in a couple of months to compare them to. I heard Freddy won't be back until August at the earliest. Ozzie thinks he won't pitch this year.
