When you consider the players are in their late teens and early twenties, I think it's fair that we rarely hear about the reasons why they are suspended and it's just referred to as "a violation of teams rules". But yeah, if you hear the term "violated team rules", it almost always means:

1. Failed a drug test

2. Failed/failing a class

3. Failed to make it to practice on time (or at all)

4. Got into some trouble at the bar/club

Only so much trouble you can get into at college for the most part, since schools are often in smaller to medium sized towns.

Its just funny how much its emphasized when it happens to a pro player as opposed to a college kid.

It appears Clifford again may have been caught testing positive for weed, and possibly a few others.

Hopefully the Butch Davis tunure will kick into full gear this year. It looks like Yates is ahead of schedule with his recovery from his shoulder surgery and should be readty by camp. He is throwing already which is great news.

Greg Little looks to have locked up the feature back spot with his spring performance. Houston seems to be his only real competition at this point, and he will be the backup. Former running back and my favorite name Richie Rich has been moved to dee back.

This story is sad and disturbing, even by the lofty standards that the "skip every class" conference has set with their band of goons they call student/athletes over the years.

Florida player allegedly used deceased woman's credit card

ESPN.com news services

Updated: May 9, 2008, 1:15 PM ET

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators safety Jamar Hornsby turned himself in Friday for allegedly using the credit card of a woman killed six months ago in an accident that also killed a teammate.

Hornsby, 21, a sophomore from Jacksonville, faces a third-degree felony count of fraudulent use of a credit card for more than $100, and a misdemeanor charge of credit card theft.

The story was first reported by The Gainesville Sun.

Hornsby allegedly used a credit card issued to Ashley Slonina, a University of Florida student who died in an October 2007 motorcycle accident that also took the life of Gators walk-on Michael Guilford. It was not known how Hornsby obtained the card.

Hornsby is accused of using the card starting Oct. 13, 2007, the day after the woman's death, the newspaper said.

Hornsby's attorney, Huntley Johnson, said it was learned that a judge had issued a warrant for Hornsby's arrest Thursday. He said his client will cooperate with authorities.

Hornsby appeared in court Friday morning and was released on his own recognizance. Alachua County Court Judge William E. Davis explained he ordered Hornsby's release because any money Hornsby spent on bond would be money that he could not repay to Slonina's family, The Sun reported.

Slonina, the girlfriend of another Florida teammate, was apparently getting a ride home from Guilford when his motorcycle struck a curb at high speed near campus early on the morning of Oct. 12.

Hornsby, who has played the last two seasons mostly on special teams, has had two prior off-field problems during his Florida career. He was cited in April 2007 on misdemeanor criminal mischief charges when he caused $750 damage to a car by throwing a man onto the vehicle's hood during a fight. He also was suspended from playing in last year's game against Georgia for selling his tickets to the game, a violation of NCAA rules.

Guilford, a walk-on defensive back, had earned national attention for playing the role of Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith on the scout team during preparation for the 2007 Bowl Championship Series national title game, which the Gators won 41-14.

Hornsby did not speak in court, except to answer the judge's questions, according to the Sun. Johnson said Hornsby would likely spend part of his release with his mother in Jacksonville until his next court appearance.

Information from ESPN.com college football reporter Mark Schlabach and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Here it is, May 13th. We are still in the middle of the NHL Conference Finals, with the Stanley Cup to be played. We are in the middle of the NBA Conference Semi-Finals with the Champion probably not to be crowned for at least another month. And in the fact that the Cubbies have yet to be eliminated from the the MLB divisional races. Does not matter. Here in the South, where it is football season year-round, it is time for the SEC 2008 Football Preview. Glad to see I now live in a town that does not follow any of the major sports leagues outside of the NFL.

another day and another UF player in the news. This time Florida DL Matt Patchan was in the news for being shot in the shoulder Friday night while at a park near his home in Tampa.

Does anyone see irony of a Miami Hurricanes fan pointng this out?

Would've been a funny comment if this was the 80s or early 90s. But this team has been nowhere near the number of incidents that FSU,UF,Tenn and countless others since Butch Davis cleaned house in the mid 90s.

But your comment is outdated and unoriginal.

Easy killer, he's just saying Miami has a rep of its own, and some has been recent. Its going to take a long time to erase those acts in peoples minds.

guess youre a little mad after all those bowl game beatdowns Miami has given the Cornhuskers. Dont worry, one year Nebraska will compete for a conference title. Just too bad they wont sniff a national title game in the next 20 plus years.
