santo=dorf
It is shocking to me that Danks and Floyd were handed 2 spots in the rotation. I thought for sure they would sign a Colon or Benson or someone, not that they are a lock to be any better but to provide some competition. Back to Uribe, he's been a very good defensive player as well most of his White Sox career, and if he starts he had to beat out Richar and Ramirez. Gavin Floyd surrendered five runs -- four earned -- in four innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks. The White Sox have been raving about Floyd, and it's easy to see why, given his sparkling 6.55 ERA and 6/5 K/BB ratio in 11 innings. Plus, he only threw two wild pitches today. Is it any wonder he's been promised a rotation spot?

RockRaines
QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) is still garbage, can't throw strikes, he's always inconsistent ozzie thinks this is impressive? in before "this is only spring training" etc etc. pathetic really. He had basically the same line as Dan Haren who is one of the top arms in the MLB. Also Gavin only worked mostly on his fastball today, finally going with his full arsenal his last inning. Watch him pitch and see what he's doing instead of mistakenly making a ill-informed post like you did. He got good work in, thats all he wanted to do. BearSox
Today Gavin Floyd had a case of Jon Garland Syndrome, when a pitcher mysteriously loses his balls, and makes the Cowardly Lion of The Wizard of Oz look brave. GreatScott82
According to Steve Stone. Most pitchers in ST go through a dead arm period. Explains that in a pitchers 3rd, 4th start in spring training, pitchers arms re-structure themselves where there arms aren't sore but the arms are re-gaining strength. He says this happens almost every spring training to even the best pitchers in the league. Im just trying to shine a little possitive light on a shaky Floyd performance.... Oh also he is the 5th starter we have to remember. El-duque had an ERA over 5 in our championship season but still won 10 games. If Floyd can win 9 and Danks can win 12 i'll be happy. Will that be enough to win a division... not so sure.
knightni
Floyd's been in a dead arm period since 2004.

I forgot the "e" in syndrome, the comma before the conjunction, the underlining of "The Wizard of Oz," as well as a few lower/upper case problems. Other then that, it was not that horrible of a sentence.

Want2Repeat
Floyd - 6.55 ERA and 6/5 K/BB ratio in 11 innings. Two wild pitches today. I want to believe, but what Ive seen so far is on par w/his career numbers. I d rather bank on Poreda.

Want2Repeat
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Poreda has barely had any time in the minors. Lets wait for him to retire his first AA batter before we start to promote him to the rotation. He struck out Helton yesterday in a B game, with 5ks in 3 scoreless innings. All I am saying is this guy has a much higher upside, with a 96 + mph fastball. He may be put on a fast track. I hope I am wrong about Floyd. Maybe they can just start him vs. Detroit. Soxpranos
Why couldn't the A's take Gavin instead of Geo? Only reason Geo doesn't make the A's team is that they don't want to start the arbitration clock just yet . Geo? If you're going to complain about the team trading someone, at least know their name. And the reason the A's didn't take Gio instead of Gavin is because Gio is a top pitching prospect, and Gavin is not. There's a noticeable difference. Normally I'd assume this was known, but after "Geo", I don't think I can assume anything. Edited March 17, 2008 by Felix

DBAHO
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) or because he got rocked today. GIO is nothing more than a #4 starter at best. Well he'll be pitching in Oakland, and the last pitcher who had similar stuff to Gio in Oakland did pretty well, Barry Zito of course. I'm thinking Gio will give the A's some good season pitching in that ballpark for the next couple of years before they move. Of course I'm higher on him than most. If he was going to have success at the MLB level, he needed to pitch in a park where he's not going to give up a lot of home runs, so he's in the perfect spot basically.
