StrangeSox
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Not when you're talking about it being .240 vs. .135 it's not, no. And that's ONLY because Josh is 6 for his last 14. They both have been disappointing this spring. The difference between .135 and .240 and .235 and .340 is the same. You're getting a hit 10% more of the time.
fathom
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) So what is he striking out on 196 times down there? Since when has striking out been such a bad thing? I'd rather have Fields swing with authority and miss than have Crede just do his typical weak pop up to the right side when he's trying to protect. Weren't Tigers fans complaining about Granderson striking out too much after his first full year? That worked out well.
southsideirish71
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Ok, so I just wasted several minutes of my life reading through this entire s***storm. This thread is like every negative poster on Soxtalk's wet dream. Why is it that some people actually enjoy when the organization does something they disagree with so they have a chance to tell everyone else how much smarter they are than the general manager? As much as all the pro-Fields people want to poke fun at "Crede's Crew," and facetiously compare Joe to Brooks Robinson, one would think Josh Fields was David Wright or Ryan Braun. The world will not end if Josh has to go to Charlotte for a few hundred ab's, guys. Just like the world will not end if Joe is traded to SF or LAD. But wow, why do some of you even watch the team or read the newspaper if it makes you so damned miserable? Some of you are incredibly-gifted whiners. You know what, I am sick of these "dark cloud" type posts when something that someone says doesn't jive with your view or the views of the see no evil crew. How the hell is anything of what I said negative. There are 2 baseball players competing for one position. I have an opinion, my personal opinion, that Josh would be better at it for the short and long term and would give the sox a better chance of winning. And thats what I want, the sox to win. I also would rather have Quentin or Anderson playing and Owens not, so I guess that makes me miserable as well. This is a message board. These threads are here to invite debate, sometimes lively and definitely sometimes over the top. These are individual opinions. Nothing that is said here means anything in the real world. It is just lively discussion and banter. In the end if Joe plays it isnt the end of the world. But I would rather see what Josh can do over the course of a long season. Who knows he could be great, and then he could be bad.
iamshack
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Since when has striking out been such a bad thing? I'd rather have Fields swing with authority and miss than have Crede just do his typical weak pop up to the right side when he's trying to protect. Weren't Tigers fans complaining about Granderson striking out too much after his first full year? That worked out well. Look, I'll flat-out admit to you that Fields will ALWAYS strike out too much, so I am willing to accept that part of his profile at the plate. But you can't offer much to convince me that he has nothing to gain by getting 200 more ab's in Charlotte right now. In Joe's first extended call-up in 02', he posted an .816 OPS in 200 ab's. Last year, Fields posted a .788 OPS in 373 ab's. Clearly, Joe was not as polished as a hitter as he appeared in those 200 ab's in 02' by the eye and/or the numbers. I'm arguing that Fields is not either. I don't want Josh to sit in Charlotte for an entire year unless we are in a pennant race and Joe is playing very well. Otherwise, I'm just saying Josh isn't going to implode and have his career ruined by being there for 2-3 months. heirdog
Insinuating Crede is the starter is only a ploy by the organization to avoid receiving any more low ball offers. "We feel our Silver Slugger is back and we aren't just giving him away because we plan on him being a big part of our team in 2008." Although Crede really is not. I'm not saying its an effective ploy but you have to play this media propaganda because its there and it doesn't hurt to drop some hints even though most people are probably too smart to believe it. What bothers me is the "this is the stupidest organization in the history of the world, led by the stupidest man on the face of the earth" posts that are quite prevalent anytime Joe Crede, Juan Uribe, or our farm system is brought up. It's pointless, counterproductive, and ironically ridiculous all in one. As fathom and others have said, there needs to be a venting thread for that kind of bs commentary. I'm damned tired of reading it in every other thread on Soxtalk. If that is the sort of discussion that people want, they can get that anywhere. I come to Soxtalk because it is the only place where INTELLIGENT discussion about the White Sox occurs.
elrockinMT
Some of these observations are worse than any move the Sox have made. There is alot of upside to keeping Joe Crede and Josh Fields and Fields may very well need more time in AAA. He is not a polished fielder and he strikes out way too much. Just because some of us believe Joe should stay doesn't make us lower than whale do-do. I wish people would leave out the judgemental stuff and the name calling. Both Joe and Josh are good players and you don't give up either one for just anything or worse- nothing. Back up here please and take a look at things without prejudice or rancor. At some point you've got to let the kid play. And when the choice is between a guy with a surgically repaired back who is 5 years older and gives you mediocre numbers and a kid who's just coming into his prime and has great potential and at this point gives you near identical, if not slightly BETTER numbers than the older guy... you go with the kid. RockRaines
Man, if only people outside of Sox fans could see how much as a fanbase we overrate Joe Crede. Im not sure theres any fan of another team that would trade their 3B for Crede.

Sox fans simple overrate anybody in connection with that team, from KW to Ozzie to the players, and nobody is more overrated perhaps from that squad that Joe Crede. Based on the way he's being looked at going into this season compared to the way he's pitched the last two seasons (although he was a lot better last year), I'd say he is. And Buehrle might be my favorite player, but he's a #3 starter right now on a good team, and is regarded as a 1 and a half but a lot of people.
