wilmot825
Josh Fields deserves to play on this team right now, he is a class act guy with great potential. Jerry Owens has done nothing to make him an "absolute stand-out" this spring. Swisher in CF and Fields in LF, Jerry Owens needs an attitude adjustment in Triple A. Ozzie and Kenny are smart baseball minds, send that headcase to Char. to learn. This is like giving the catcher post. to Toby Hall, he has done nothing to prove he's the guy(granted he has yet to play in SPT). Owens is the same way. So you want a two out of position players in the OF? I don't think so. I REALLY don't want to see Fields in AAA, but it's better to get him some playing time then playing him out of position or keeping him as a 1-2 day a week backup. NorthSideSox72
I've heard a lot of criticisms of Jerry Owens, but this is the first time I've heard anyone say he has an issue with having a cocky attitude. Are you confusing Owens and Anderson maybe? I know they look a lot a like.

BurlyMan56
Having confidence and being cocky are two totally different things. Jerry is confident in his ability and I am as well. Jerry has been a class act since he's been with us
southsideirish71
Owens is pretty much a nice guy all around. I don't want him to start, but thats for more of the fact that I question if he can get on base enough to be effective. But to say he is anything but a nice guy is way off base. heirdog
QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) The reason I said cocky was the fact I met him the night before Soxfest began. I was inside the private party at ESPN Zone, and met all the players and coaches. Jerry Owens refused to sign autographs until he finished eating, but all the other players signed and took pictures while they ate. Then afterwards I asked for his autograph and photo and he was like "yah but lets hurry it up," then before I could get a picture he sidetracked to talk to Greg Walker. Maybe I just had a bad experience with him, but he comes off as cocky and a jerk...to me atleast. Sounds personal and not very objective if you ask me. I hope you are 12 years old or younger or else, it makes you look worse that you are an "autograph hound." Its one thing to turn a kid down but I really do not feel any sympathy for a grown man getting turned down for an autograph that he is either going to put on e-Bay or add to his collection. If you want autographs go to soxfest and wait in line, go to a special autograph event, or go to spring training. Getting upset because while he was eating you came up and bothered him for a signature doesnt seem that logical. I am sure that when you are sitting down for a nice meal, and the doorbell rings and a Jehovah's witness starts to give you a spiel that you are in the best of moods. SoxFan562004
from a batting line-up situation that makes the most sense, but that might kill the defense. If everything stands as it is it looks like 1B- PK 2B- Alexi 3B- Crede SS- Cabrera LF- Swisher CF-Owens RF-Dye C- A.J. (Obviously not the batting order, just listing defense) I would like to see BA start in CF and Swisher in left and lead off with Swisher, unless Owens has taken ridiculous strides in raising his OBP. If it as it is above, then I hope BA is the 4th OF Unfortunatley if looks like Fields will be sent to AAA. As much as Roberts would be a perfect fit I just don't see that happening. This has no bearing whatsoever on whether he should be an everyday player on the Sox or his attitude towards the team, come on now. By the way, as far as something tangible, he's been working hard this past offseason to get better, he knows the areas he needed to improve to be able to make an impact as a MLB player. And he's batting .440 this spring. I would've liked to see him have more than 1 walk... but damn I mean expecting him to have a .530 average instead of a .440 average is kind of expecting a bit much. Bottom line, his attitude is the last of things I'm worried about with Jerry Owens.
lostfan
Oh and Fields is a terrible left fielder, he is a 3B and that's that. Especially with all the OFs this team has right now.

How would you like it if someone came up to you while you were trying to have dinner?!?!? Let me tell you this, I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jerry Owens the person, even had a few drinks with him, and he is one of the most laid back nice guys on the club. Him, along with Swisher and Danks, spent atleast an hour with me and a buddy of mine during soxfest at the bar just talking sports, and not once did he come across as "cocky" or a "jerk" He was even nice enough to take a picture with me as well. Jerry Owens is a 100% class act.
YASNY
To interrupt someone while they are having dinner is rude and obnoxious behavior. If the poster is an adult, it's inexcusable. If the poster is a kid, his parents need to learn some social tact. Sorry to be so harsh, but that's the way I see it.
DaTank
How would you like to have someone come up to you while you're trying to enjoy your meal and ask for an autograph? And to go further into saying he is "cocky" and a "jerk", is just ludicrous. Personally, I have never met Jerry, but he seems like a great guy. You don't need to give him a false rep just because he didn't want you to interrupt his meal. Sorry, but grow up.
