southsideirish71
QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Boers and Bernstein are trying to confirm that Juan Uribe has been released. That would be dumb. And I dont like Uribe. You are already paying him lots of money to play here. Whats the point of releasing him.

Now to appease Kyyle's call for blood. Unless he injured half the team running to the buffet table for the snacks and cakes call.

TitoMB345
As much as I absolutely hate Uribe, this would be the stupidest thing ever. What a waste of 4.5 mil, even if this isn't true. To shame.
whitesoxfan101
So we're willing to eat 4.5 million for Uribe, but not 5 million for Crede, instead opting to retard the development of our best prospect to show off a mediocre hitter with a bad back? Yeah, this makes sense.
Steve9347
Boers & Bernstein confirm he's been DFA'd. Alexei Ramirez must be the starting 2B now...
Scwible
They're saying that he could have been DFA-ed. edit: beat me to it steve. Edited March 19, 2008 by Scwible

The only reason I could see the Sox cutting him loose is Uribe being disgruntled with his move to 2B, and the ascension of Ramirez (and even Richar). Steve9347
He wasn't released. He's been DFA'd which means he's on waivers and if he clears he can be sent to the minors. Chances are the Orioles will pick him up off the scrap heap.

RME JICO
If DFA'ed and claimed by another team, does the other team pick up the contract? Edited March 19, 2008 by RME JICO
ChiliIrishHammock24
This is SOO bad. I get Uribe sucks, and should not be on this team. But for god sakes, trade him for at least a minor leaguer or get SOMETHING in return rather than dump 4.5M on NOTHING>

fathom
Maybe the Sox are close to trading for Roberts?
RockRaines
The O's want him, they can have him A-ram is now our starting 2B with Richar as backup plan. This is of course if we didnt trade for Brian Roberts.

Okay I like the idea of Ramirez or Richar being the starter. Great. Hopefully they can trade Uribe to someone and get some salary relief. I can't see them just eating the salary. Balta1701
Well...I wasn't willing to say that renegotiating Uribe's contract before trading for Cabrera was a mistake a few months ago when that all went down. But today, this officially moves me into the camp of saying it was a mistake to re-up with Uribe. How can you re-up with a guy and then 4 months later cut him before he's played a game of baseball? Reddy
so... including last year we dumped Mackowiak, Iguchi and Uribe all for absolutely nothing in return. cool.

flavum
Owens starts 108 games in CF. Richar starts 108 games at 2B. Ramirez starts 54 games each in CF and at 2B. These are just rough estimates... Edited March 19, 2008 by flavum

At least with Mack and Iguchi we saved a bit on salary and at least picked up a couple fringe minor leaguers for them. Unless we've got something lined up, DFAing Uribe doesn't save us a penny and gets us nothing in return other than a roster spot and playing time for the youngin's.
