KW to sign Uribe to begin with shows me KW had no real plan! :gosoxretro:

And once again I say, perhaps the Angels came to the Sox with the Garland for Cabrera deal.

It is impossible for any GM to know the status of EVERY SINGLE player out there.

KW talked about a list of guys they wanted to acquire, and Cabrera was on that list. Plain and simple, he should have had an idea about whether or not he'd be an option prior to re-signing Uribe. If they really did DFA him today, I hope people will stop making excuses for KW and just admit it was a gross error.

Fathom, unless they have something else lined up...if Uribe has been DFA'd, then you've even got me agreeing with you on that being a mistake.

I wouldn't say gross error I would say calculated risk. It was not like he had all offseason to make a move. He had 10 days after the World Series and he could not force the issue and risk not having a SS. If KW said we can not make a move because they are short on cash then it is a bad move. Christ they are eating a $4.5M contract.

Maybe the Angels were trying to decide if they wanted to work with Colon and therefore did not need Garland.

I love how people think that KW is trying to sabatoge the whole season just to piss us off.

It is a $4.5 M gamble that they could lose, it did not hamper them getting anther player so what is the big deal?

I thought I saw on here that we were already at 39 on the roster. Are there 2 open spots now?

Once Uribe is off, yes, we should be down to 38. I may have missed someone else posting it, but Whitesox.com has an article up reporting on the reporting of the DFA and stating that they can't confirm it due to league policy. That's probably as official as we can get until 3 days pass.

Wouldn't the Angels have had more leverage if they would have came to the Sox before they signed Uribe?

How do you know that 4.5 million couldn't have been used elsewhere to upgrade this team?

they were already willing to spend that much more anyway with Hunter's signing. they had already budgeted more for this year, but instead they couldnt get Hunter and got the cheaper Swisher. so we'll spend more money in a future year when there are attractive options again.

Maybe. Like Balta said...maybe the Halos said no dice at first and reapproached. Who's to know. KW doesn't reup Juan...he hits the market and signs elsewhere and where would that have left Kenny?...besides everybody calling for his head.

Exactly. This team wouldn't have paid way over market value regardless of if they saved money on another deal.

Well, it certainly was not a good situation to be in, but I agree with the other poster who pointed out that with no ss, we might have had to pony up more for Cabrera.

Either way, it doesn't look like the decision to resign Uribe will cost us anything. Someone will pick him up on waivers.

So if a team picks up uribe off waivers, we will actually save money since he signed for less and we avoided the buy out.

Will all of you still be whining like little babies?

He will CLEAR waivers 100%........Sox will pay the freight!

I'm really not sure about that, whatever Orioles fans say.

I highly doubt someone claims him in 72 hours. Also, after thinking about this more, there's no way this is a prelude to a Roberts trade. If it was, we wouldn't have released Uribe. We would have just included him in the trade.

Well save the crying until that happens. If It does, I will be as upset as you are about how this part of the offense went down. Still, even if it does, I think kenny improved this team as much as he could without over paying for talent.

Exactly...if the Sox don't resign Uribe...now we ABSOLUTELY need a SS. That'sa no güt.

Where? Kyle Lohse? Withtin 10 days of he WS they needed to make that decision and could not read the market then. Now if we were talking about Crede I would agree with you. The time frame that was alloted really tied their hands. Other then the $75M overpayments to the CF's where did they not spend money?
