HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) He said he hadn't heard the Youtube sermons in question, and that he actually didn't find out about them until he started running for president. He tried to avoid talking about the rest as much as he could and limit the damage but that didn't work so he had to acknowledge he's heard Wright say controversial things. What he did not say is "yeah, ok actually I was at that 9-11 sermon." Exactly. In retrospect, when you hear his interviews before his race speech, he VERY carefully chose his words. What you said is indeed correct.
YASNY
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) Well he did disinvite the guy to his coming out party...so he had to know of the controversial remarks back then. He did say this before his speech: The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. -- Barack Obama, Huffington Post, March 14, 2008 So when he gave his speech March 18th, I wanted to hear if that statement was the truth or not. In his speech he says he heard remarks that could be considered controversial while he sat in church, but he never says what they were. Was he there for the America deliberately spread AIDS among blacks, God damn America, 9-11 was America's chickens coming home to roost, etc... or were they some other remarks. Did he lie in the HuffPost piece? We don't know exactly. He chose his words in the speech just as carefully as he did prior to it. So things aren't clear, but I would think there would have been a specific denial to those specific remarks, if he was able to do so truthfully. The way he did do it, he left himself an out...if for some reason someone is able to prove he was there for the worst comments. That's a very logical and well thought out opinion. Kudos to you. Now, let's see where the chips fall.
HuskyCaucasian
Best spin of the night: A Clinton supporter said that Hillary's lie about Bosnia isnt all that important because well.... Roosevelt lied about his experience, JFK lied about some experience, blah blah blah. Therefore, since all these great American parents lied... it's ok she lied. I'll have video later when Hardball re-airs.

StrangeSox
That's hilarious. "I went to the Naval Academy and we had an honor code. Balta1701
I don't think it's been noted yet, but Hillary's other excuse for the mis-speaking was that she was "Sleep deprived". Clinton said she was "sleep-deprived" and "misspoke" when she said last week that she landed under sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia in 1996, when she was first lady. So, if you make those kind of errors when you're sleep deprived, do we want you answering the phone at 3:00 a.m.?

Gregory Pratt
I generally don't jump into these conversations but I'll share my thoughts of the day on the campaign's turn this week. This is what I wrote: Pomp and Circumstance The Obama campaign released its tax forms from the 2000s today, excluding their 2007 returns, and they’ve “challenged” Hillary Clinton to do the same because they believe it makes her look bad not to and they know that her husband’s forms will be an embarrassment if she decides to. No matter what she does she is in a bind, and this is a true Catch 22: keep them private, as she has every right, and she’s hiding something; release them, and you know why she was hiding something! I only wish that we didn’t focus on what I surmise are ultimately shallow questions, although I suppose there’s something to be said (and Republicans said it through the 90s, and Obama seems to be implying it now) that the Clintons can’t be trusted not to pimp the White House out to campaign donors. And of course, we have to have the argument over whether or not Hillary Clinton ever came under sniper fire in Bosnia. All the while, Americans are facing significant economic trials and the War in Iraq is disappearing from the media, for better and for worse. I for one am thrilled the media and the candidates are allowed to have their pomp and circumstance while Americans are struggling with their bread and butter. santo=dorf
It's not a distortion. The man was a member of that church for over 20 years. Personally, when he says never heard that anti-American rhetoric, I think he's lying through his pearly whites. If he did hear it, he should have instantly walked out and disassociated himself. This is an issue that needs much more scrutiny, not just an "oh well". Sorry, but this man is trying to become POTUS. If he can't stand the heat, he needs to get out of the kitchen. Do you believe and follow everything your pastor says? My pastors used to say some crazy things during my catholic mass, but I didn't walk out. I just started daydreaming, tuning myself out of the conversation. Eventually I gave up my faith entirely. Did I do the right thing?
knightni
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Isn't that what people are saying about Obama? It was a McCain reference. How do you know that Wright's opinions "colored" Obama's? You can't know for sure. How do you know that the VietCong didn't brainwash McCain? You can't know for sure. How do you know that Hillary isn't a compulsive story-teller? You can't know...Oh wait...

Jenksismyhero
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I have an interesting analogy here as to how BAD of a "misspeak" this is and how it was meant to be an outright lie. Back in November of 2006, my family and I were vacationing in Orlando Florida. On our way back to our time share we heard tornado warnings on the radio. Them moments later a tornado swept across the road in front of us. Our windshield was shattered. We almost died, but we all survived, but it was close. It was a very scary situation! The real story: The tornado was several miles south of our condo and we never saw it. only saw footage of the damage on the news that evening. You dont just "misspeak" major details like that. That would only be a good analogy if there was no tornado whatsoever.
