RedPinStripes
This IS still a form of rebuilding. Just not as tehy did in 98 where JR bsically called the fans crazy for thinking we can compete. Look at all the free agents next year for the Sox. Off the top of my head: Everet, Robby, Sandy, C.Lee, Daubach, Colon, Valentin. Now dont get me wrong. I love what the Sox did, but this is a cover up for the rebuilding process. The sox are going to get a ton of prospects in next year's draft in compenstation for these guys. This will rebuild the farm with low A ball players. I doubt the Sox will sign half of these guys. So there's a good chance next years team will suck or play .500 ball unless KW does the same thing as this year. It is a much smarter way of rebuilding though. Instead of giving up, try to go out with a winner. Thsi way they're not pissing off the fans in july. I think all Sox fans can handle a few years of rebuilding if we have a chance to do more then a division title. If you really think about it, the Sox havent really had a chance to have a good draft position since the late 80's!!!!!!! Think about it............. The Sox havent really been much worse then .500 since then which puts them in the middle of the draft and they never had a shot at prospects like Mark Prior or other top 10 rated prospects in the country. This sure beats watching this team lose BAD for a few years only to wait and get prospects over being one of the worst in the league. witesoxfan
It's actually a good plan, in theory. If we win, we can reward some of these players with good contracts and we get them back next year, and hopefully weompete more, we get more public interest, and we become the thing in Chicago once again. We also win a lot and stay competitive. If we lose, we offer a lot of these guys arbitration, if they accept, we have them back next year, if they don't, we get compensation picks. We get loaded up on great prospects and the rest of what you said will work out. I'm shocked. The Chicago White Sox actually have a f***ing clue
Cerbaho-WG
If the Sox were rebuilding, they would have traded their trade-bait (Colon) for prospects a la Cleveland last year. The Sox are trying to win, not to rebuild. It just happens that we have a large amount of free agents next year. I might be able to agree with you if we start going out and get more and more guys with free agency looming, but that isn't even plausible. The last thing the Sox wantt o do is make it look like they're giving up. I didnt expect to see any major player traded since Sox fans were dreading teh all star break. Just look where they'll be and what they're gonna get since they wont be adding 50 mill to the payroll next year.

Playoffs or not, this team is getting broken up next year. I'll bet. Does anyone put this past JR?

Guest Ncorgbl
Playoffs or not, this team is getting broken up next year. I'll bet. Does anyone put this past JR? I agree. This year all stops will be pulled to get to the playoffs where anything can happen. The only way any of the big names would be kept is if they won the World Series and were 'forced' to keep players like Maggs. Short of that, this is the swan song of this team, and the rebuild will center around Crede, Olivo , Borchard, Harris, Marte', Buehrle & Garland. Thomas will finish his career here. Valenyin could stay if cheap enough. The rest will fuel the rebuild with draft pick compensation or trades, as Maggs and Lee and Konerko will bring a lot. It's not a question of sameO sameO, it's smart baseball.

clujer420
In addition... I didn't want to bring this up because it's kind of a downer, and I don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but if the Sox completely fall apart over the next 2-3 weeks, we can STILL trade Alomar and Everett, in addition to guys like Colon, can we not? Making these trades in early July allows us to put this "new" team out there for 15-20 games and see what happens. If we play .600 ball, great, we're right in the thick of things. If we play .300 ball, we can start the bidding. Either way, it gives us some breathing room and allows management to get a better look at the situation. He didn't make it clear who he was talking to, so I asked for clarification. If you think you're big enough, asshole, come change it for me. I didn't start with you, however, I will finish. Jagoff.
