Chisoxfn
Would it be good for the Sox? I know a lot of people hate the Cubs here while me, I don't mind them one bit. Anyway, I was thinking on my drive to school this morning and wondered what would happen to the Sox if the Cubs won the series. Then I thought and figured that it may just be motivation for JR. If the Cubs win the series then that would put so much pressure on Jerry to either, sell or put a competitive team together or thats just my theory. I was just gonna see if anyone else has ever thought about this.
Guest hotsoxchick1
if the scrubs win the series we would never hear the end of it and jr would probably pack up the sox and move them or disolve the team all together.........either way it would suck around the city of chicago for a long time...............:puke

Molto
sorry to say this, but the only reason it will suck is because us Sox fans make too much of a big damn deal about stuff like this. if we were to just ignore the cubs and go about our business, all this cubby crap wouldn't get underneath all of our skins. Most of the nitwits that pack the Unfriendly Confined could care less about anything to do with the home team. Ask a sCrUBs "fan" what team Todd Hundley played for before the the sCrUBS. Additionally, ask a sCrUBS "fan" which team ShamME Soso played for before the White Sox. Or where Harry Carey announced before Chicago's Southside. I'd be willing to bet 7 out of 10 sCrUB "fans" would not know the answers to the aforementioned questions (I know 7 out of 10 on this board know the answer to all 3 and I, along with most here, HATE the f***ing sCrUBS). "f*** THE CUBS AND f*** THEIR FANS" is my goddamn war cry!
Molto
that is it entirely though. cub fans don't hate sox fans, they just act like (in some cases are) idiots and f*** around with sox fans. what is worse is we get so f***ing upset over it (i'm including in this group). the reason Sox fans hate them is because of the s*** their fans do. the reason they do it is because of the way Sox fans act when they do it. plus, we have threads started like this and sox sites who focus all their damn attention on the cubs. of course this s*** is going to continue. who cares about them. they are another baseball team as far as I'm concerned and we have been the better team since forever. we should be arrogant when talking about the cubs like yankee fans are too every other teams fans. sure we aren't the best team in baseball, but we are the best baseball team in chicago. we know we are better, any baseball guy knows it, no need to argue it. Chisoxfn
We are the best baseball team in Chicago. We brought Chicgao its last world series and have played better baseball since then as well. Typically I shy away from comments regarding the Cubs because this is a Sox board, but in this post I figured, maybe it would have an effect simply because of the implied rivalry. Of course I think Sox fans worry about it more because of the bad knock they get in the press by companies like the Trib.
witesoxfan
If the Cubs won the World Series, the opening on the Tribune's sports page would cover it. In about 10 inches of the newspaper it would say "CUBS WIN" in big black bold letters, accompanied by a picture with SamME holding up the trophy, that being about 9 inches tall and page width wide, and then a 4 inch story that follows that. Slightly below in the lower left hand corner, it would say "Sox something or another." If the Sox won the Series, it would say "SOX WIN" in big black bold letters that are about 2 inches, a picture of the team celebrating that is 5x5, and then a 6 inch story. Down below there would be a 7 1/2 inch article about the Chubs f***ing sucked once again. Sounds about right.
BridgeportHeather
Cub fans are so clueless they'd be asking "What's the score?" after SamME does his chest thumps and blows kisses to the crowd. Their baseball ignorance totally sickens me. Then they are treated like the gods here. I'd be convinced to move to a communist country if they won the World Series. And then after they asked what the score was, you could say "0-0" and they'd think you were right. 20 seconds later it would dawn on them that they scored a run because SamME would have just finished rounding the bases blowing kisses to whoever he blows kisses to. Chisoxfn brought it up..... But the hatred and attitude doesn't come from messageboards. It comes from dealing with these nitwits everyday at work, school, media, bars, etc everyday during the summer. Sox fans see the second rate treatment we get from the media (remember 2000 baseball sportscasts and newpaper reports?), bars (go into any bar..... chances are the sCrUBS monopolize an 80% chunk of the baseball wall), and casual baseball fans who, in this city, care more about the ballpark the team plays in than who is more deserving of fan attention. Not that the Sox Organization is without fault. I've been following this team because of the way my dad brought me up for as long as I can remember. But this team is one or two more fan alienating moves away from me boycotting Comiskey until JR sells the team and KW resigns, goes to another bush league organization, or is fired. After following this team for 28 years, I've had about an ass full of this s***!

Chisoxfn
I just can't give up on my favorite team. I've followed them for so long, and they were my first team to really like. I do think having a new owner would be great, but hey, I'd love to win with JR at the helm too. Either way, I'll always root for and support the Sox. CubKilla
Originally posted by Mike South24The way things are looking, they will before the Sox do. How do you figure? Prior and Wood will be their one two punch this year and Wood is too erratic to win consistently. The sCrUBS are going to miss Lieber big time. ShamME will be back to the days of having no one to protect him in the line up. Hundley's about as tradeworthy as Todd Ritchie. Hee Sop Chop Suey is going to have to have a monster year if the sCrUBS want to see anything besides the basement..... although Milwaukee will, once again, give the sCrUBS a run at sole possession for cellar dweller. Not to mention consistent above .500 finishes by Houston and St Louis almost annually. Meanwhile, in the AL Central, the Sox are in a division with Detroit, KC, and a stripped-down Cleveland. 2003 should see the White Sox and Twins battling it out for AL Central supremacy. Not to mention the White Sox farm systems are just about as good as the sCrUBS. Now if JR sells the team and KW does anything but GM the Sox, I'd say we'd have a good shot at the AL Central title for years to come. Please don't tell me thatjust because the sCrUBS have Dusty Baker as a manager that you think the sCrUBS are destined for 2003 postseason glory. IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!
Cy Young Porzio
whoever doesnt like the cubs has some problems because even though it is tough to be a fan of theirs everyone who sticks by them is true, and know a real baseball team with history. I am, obviously, a bigger Cubs than sox fan, and watched all the games i could although most of them were pretty pathetic this year with the pitching and all, but they will be back just like always. The day they win the world series will complete my life along with the bears winning the superbowl. Who cares what affect it has on the sox, although i still do like them, but a win for the cubs would mean a lot for every fan and citizen of chicago. It will be a glorifying day to go down in chicago history for ever.

It will be a glorifying day to go down in chicago history for ever. So are you telling me that around 90% of Sox fans have problems and about 98% of Cardinal fans have problems? Or that 92% of Astro fans have problems? There are plenty of people that don't like the Cubs, myself included. That would be like a Red Sox fan talking to a group of Yankee fans saying "If you don't like the Red Sox then you have problems." How f***ing stupid does that sound? People like some teams and don't like others. That's that. You can't say people have to like so-and-so just because you like them. That's not the way human nature works. I personally like classic rock and rap of today....I hate heavy metal and early 90s rap. Does that mean that other people HAVE to like classic rock and today's rap and hate heavy metal and early 90s rap? Hell no. I personally can't stand the Cubs, and it's mainly because of their fans. It is the same reason I don't like the Twins or Indians. If you don't like someone, you won't like what they like with a passion. Just because you're a Chicago fan doesn't mean you have to be a fan of both teams. You think Mets fans like the Yankees and Yankee fans like the Mets? Cy Young Porzio
In response to whitesox fan i think you may be reading into what i said just a little(actually a lot) too much. Differently rivalries are of different magnitudes, and i personally dont feel that the cubs and sox is that big of one comapared to the astros or cardinals fans opinion. And just because i say they have problems is in no way telling someone what to be, it is just what i think of them.
Molto
I do agree that the Cubs are somewhat like the yankees, in that a lot of people like them, but even more hate them, and it all has to do with their park and fans. I don't think many fans hate the Sox. Actually, I think sox fans hate the Sox more than other fans of course the lack of hatred for us is based that nobody knows who the hell we are.
