HuskyCaucasian
McCain Smacks Forehead: A counter to the outpouring of pro-Palin people from Dem campaign sources in Ohio: We've had multiple diehard Hillary supporters come into our office yesterday and today and say that HRC's speech didn't sway them and neither did Obama's, but they re s ent the Palin pic k a s trying to manipulate them and thin k it' s in s ulting to compare her to Hillary, and they have gone from s itting thi s out to volunteering for Barac k . DukeNukeEm
This is more than just Palin, although I'm sure she was the tipping point. This whole effort to get Hillary supporters has turned out to be a waste of time, because there aren't many of them who haven't made up their minds already on what they're going to do. It's entirely possible that many of the women who switched to McCain now feel so pandered to and manipulated have just decided to sit the election out. That movement is an underrated aspect of the recent seperation in the polls, women aren't a monolithic voting block and apparently are resentful of those who treat them like one. What Palin has done is energized the Republican base into a bit of frenzy. But all that does is get people who were going to vote for McCain anyways want to vote for him more, which really isn't the point of a campaign when it's all said and done. I just dont see Palin being the wedge-issue or turnout machine that gay marriage was. Especially against a competent opponent like Obama as opposed to a dud like Kerry. Yeah, there was a concerted effort to put Gay Marriage amendments on the ballot in swing states, to help boost turnout with conservative and evangelical voters. It worked in a lot of states. BigSqwert
John Kerry on Stephanoplous: What John McCain has proven with this choice -- this is very important, George. John McCain wanted to choose Tom Ridge. He wanted to choose Joe Lieberman. He wanted to choose another candidate, but you know what? Rush Limbaugh and the right wing vetoed it. And John McCain was forced to come back and pick a sort of Cheney-esque social conservative who's going to satisfy the base. What John McCain has proven with this choice is that John McCain is the prisoner of the right wing, not a maverick.
kapkomet
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) John Kerry on Stephanoplous: Whatever. He's the biggest political f***tard that ever lived. When you can't beat a president who basically has sucked, you have no room for an opinion. Go home, and STFU, John Kerry.
whitesoxfan101
I think the fact that John Kerry said that proves that Palin was a great, maverick pick. Kerry's opinions should be ignored because of the fact he was awful enough to lose to George W. Bush after the nation had seen his abominable work for four years. Listening to his opinion on political decisions is like listening to Michael D. Brown talk about disaster response.
