Disco72
QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) My mother waited 90 minutes to vote early in Bolingbrook this morning. Is it just because they don't have enough poll workers to handle the early voters, or are there really that many new people voting? If it is anything like Atlanta, it isn't so much the volume of voters (though there are lots of people voting early), but it is moreso the fact that there are so few places to vote early. DBAHO
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) The Economist endorses Obama. The Economist is probably my favorite political / news magazine out there. They make a pretty good argument there I think.

That makes sense. I'm curious how much time I should allot on Tues to vote here in Hollywood. Also, here's a great quote from the Economist: The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence. But we acknowledge it is a gamble. Given Mr Obama’s inexperience, the lack of clarity about some of his beliefs and the prospect of a stridently Democratic Congress, voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead.
HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) haha oops! man, this campaign has just completely unraveled. and over half the "crowd" was bussed in from a school district A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses. So, they bussed in people who cant even VOTE (with the exception of maybe some High School seniors who may be 18) to fill in a McCain rally. It might just push him over the top. You may be on to something. My four year old son expressed support for McCain because he has two friends from Pre-K named "John," but none named "Barack." His six year old sister likes Obama, but thinks McCain will win, because "he's old," and all the presidents depicted on her placemat are "old too." Cknolls
QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Why are they still using this guy? He owes back taxes, isn't a licensed plumber, and is in no position to own his own business - which is his claim to fame concern, no? And isn't he related to someone connected to McCain also or was that bs? He doesn't need a license, Obama's treasurer owes back taxes too and what a fool he is to want to own his own business someday.
Balta1701
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) This is the kind of stuff that the McCain campaign missed the boat on. they waited too long to hit Obama on taxes, and the spending stuff was in front of them the whole time. From the promises Obama is making, his budget looks more like a Bush expansion of spending than the guy he has been calling George W Bush derisively since Day one of the Presidential campaign. You'll note from the very graphs you post that a plurality of Obama's spending winds up being his health care package, which is particularly noteworthy because damnit something has to be done about that system because as-is it bankrupts everyone in the country in about 30 years. Cknolls
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) no no. McCain doesnt say Obama is being negative. He says how dare Obama attack this average citizen..... which is being used as a political prop by the McCain Campaign. Hypocracy if you ask me. "We'll exploit the hell out of him... name a campaign tour after him.. but dont investigate him. He's off limits". Investigate him by using police computers and trying to find out if he is delinquent on child support payments? I'll post the results when I find out. I remember doing this when I was in school here. Kinda cool. McCain won. They didnt announce a vote count. Not surprising for a Lutheran school. To be a licensed plumber you don't need a license...? Hopefully Obama's treasurer gets that cleared up, but right now I am talking about Joe the unlicensed plumber. And of course he's not a fool for wanting to be successfull... however, IMO, he's a mornon for crying about something he's light years away from even being in a position to think about doing. There's lots of things I would like to do though I wouldn't be so stupid as to make a federal case out of them if there's no possible way for me to accomplish them in a reasonable timeline from when I start b****ing about them. There is no educational opportunity in listening to Palin speak unless you want to hear about how bad the next 4 years will be if Obama wins and how unAmerican you are if you are not agreeing with her policies. Texsox
No and No. Campaign speeches are a big part of the democratic process of electing our leaders. The opportunity to be at one of these events IS very important. It fosters an early interest in the process. It's not about the speech, it's about learning the process. Those experiences are excellent teachers.
