Chisoxfn
While todays game sucks, it is just 1 out of 162 games. Were right there, and have just acquired two very good hitters. The starting pitching is really good and we have a pretty solid bullpen, its just in need of an additional swing man and a healthy Koch. No one is going to tell me there isn't something wrong with Koch. Still, the guy does have decent numbers since the start of the season (Under 3 last 24 or so). I just am worried that something is wrong with him. Things get bad, but this team is still good and they will bounce back. I'm very confident in that fact. Yes, this game sucked horribly, but whether we lose 20-0 or in this fashion its still a loss and thats that. The Sox can't think about this one, but only put it aside and win the next two and take the series and then move onto the next. We aren't going to win them all, the Sox are going to blow games, and thats the fact. This is the one that sucks cause the Sox let it slip away, but hte fact is they played damn good ball for 8 innings (The Sox) and one bad inning. The talent and team is there and they will win, they will go deep.
SoxFanForever
But, will they go as deep as that 3-Run walk off homer that Koch served up today? That is the question Just kidding heheh. I agree with you on this one Chisox. I just really hope something is done about him before he hurts this team any more.
Mathew
While I'm not at all panicking, it is one game. To pretend that Botch didn't blow this one is not in my realm. Botch sucks. I am not bandwagon jumping one bit, as a fan I am entitled to say so, as I have all season. Koch's numbers are far from decent, he doesn't strike anybody out, even while his era was dropping a bit he was walking to many and k'ing too few as he has for some time now. 2 teams have realized this and dumped him off as a result, may we be fortunate enough to be the third. He still throws the ball straight even when he had velosity. Sorry to turn your wholesome thread into more of this but I hadn't ranted on this one in a little while. Back to the point, the season is still on track despite tonight's set back which cost us, 0.6% of our season.

Molto
the problem with Koch is simple. he has relied on a straight 92 MPH fastball FAR too often. whenever he's had success this year, it has happened because he used his curve and slider along with his fastball. he doesn't even have to have the pitches working, but by simply using them he gains and advantage as his 75 MPH curve could make his 92 MPH look a lot stronger. Although it is clear Koch has struggled and can no longer save games for us, I think it is just the point of him using all his pitches. his speed is down on his fastball, but that isn't the only thing. he can have a 97 MPH fastball right now and he'll still get hit, just not as much. Solid point. I argue the same thing to a buddy of mine all the time. He gets focused on how fast a guy throws a lot (example, John Rocker "has a great fastball"), but I tell him that if it's straight or if you don't have anything else to go with it, you're going to get rocked eventually. Koch actually has a pretty good changeup (or something offspeed, not sure what it is), and like you said, if he can use that effectively, his 90-92 MPH fastball appears much better than it really is. While I agree with your assessment the reality is that he can't get his curve over for a strike thus the hitters discount it and sit on that weak fastball instead. His changeup fools no one, they all get wood on it. For him to be anything but a wasted roster spot for us the rest of the yr he's going to have to remake himself, that's a tall order to expect.
