rangercal
How much did these guys hurt us in 2007? Judge for yourself. 2007 #1-2 Hitters (2007 sox totals) Mackowiak (2 games at # 1) .354 Iguchi (3 games at # 1, 57 games at # 2) .340 Owens (83 games at # 1) .324 Erstad (37 games at # 1, 12 games at # 2) .310 Fields (50 games at # 2) .308 Podsednik (20 games at # 1) .299 Uribe ( 4 games at # 2) .284 Cintron (9 games at # 2) .281 Andy Gonzalez (10 games at # 1 12 games at # 2) .280 Ozuna (7 games at # 1, 10 games at # 2) .280 Anderson ( 1 game at # 2) .211 2008 #1-2 Hitters (2007 Totals) Swisher .381 Cabrera .345 It seems that Cabrera would not be so much of an upgrade over Iguchi at the # 2 slot in terms of OBP. Though, Iguchi only played 57 games at # 2, so Cabrera is a pretty big Upgrade over everyone else. Swisher at # 1 speaks for itself all the way around. Y2HH
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) How much did these guys hurt us in 2007? Answer: Lots.
GoSox05
The offense is better all around. Small sample, but so far we are near the top in almost every stat. I think Swish has alot to do with that. It also helps that JD has started off hot. The stat I like the most is the walks. We are third in the majors in walks, first in the AL. It seems like we've been able to get walks with 2 outs to keep drives alive.
VAfan
Yes, lots. But you should really look beyond the 1-2 slots to see why the Sox look like they can return to and improve upon the solid offense of 2006. I have a separate post on that topic. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63847 The biggest problem in 2007 was that we had 4 positions -- LF, CF, SS, 2B -- that didn't hit a lick all season. Add in Joe Crede's horrible start (before he got hurt for the year), as well as Jermaine Dye's, and you can see why we dropped off the planet in terms of offense. This year, there is only one bona fide "out" in the lineup -- Juan Uribe in the 9 hole. And, with his power, he's averaged more than 70 RBI/year for the last three years. So, look for this year's offense to exceed what we put up in 2006, which should keep us in the race the entire year.
Jimbo's Drinker
I think its the energy that Swisher and OCab bring to this team. I still believe 75% of successful baseball is team unity.
