The Critic
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Cubs might go 18-0 vs the Pirates this year. The Pirates have some good players, but they are not a good team.
Greg The Bull Luzinski
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) And Ben Sheets is hurt. The Brewers have no prayer if he can't stay relatively healthy. Now when Kerry Wood hits the DL, I will know baseball season is in full swing and everything is normal. Greg The Bull Luzinski
QUOTE (The Critic @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) The Pirates have some good players, but they are not a good team. Really, the Pirates are the worst franchise in baseball. There is no hope of them getting better soon. Even the Rays show some promise. They have not been even remotely competitive since they had Van Slyke, Bonilla, and Bonds in the outfield. The whole roster could easily be in the minor leagues for other organizations. Of course, now that I have said this, the Sox will be swept by the Pirates in June.
scenario
Did the Cubs throw the 1918 Series? Were they the inspiration for the 1919 WhiteSox? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Anr4...n&type=lgns
fathom
It only took the Cubs two batters to take the lead today. Reed Johnson was a superb pick-up for the Cubs. He was the righty platoon outfielder the Sox lacked the past few seasons.
Gregory Pratt
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) I'm sure I'll take heat for this, but is Carlos Marmol the best set-up reliever in baseball? He reminds me so much of K-Rod when he first broke in. I love Marmol.

They bashed around Harang the other day, and Harang has looked great against the Brewers so far this year. We need Braun to pick it up, as Bill Hall has been carrying that team. I disagree, their pen and rotation arent very good and the offense is basically a three to four man show.

Why do you think their pen is bad? Marmol and who else? Wood is shaky and is oft injured. Its very thin, and if a starter gets knocked out early their pen shows it weakness. Its very thin, and if a starter gets knocked out early their pen shows it weakness. They have decent long men in Lieber and Hart (Lou's been pulling his starters very early so far). Wuertz is a solid reliever, as righties suck vs him. Hopefully Howry continues to suck. So far, they've made the right choice in moving Dempster to the rotation. Jordan4life_2007
Fathom is like two different posters when talking about the Cubs and Sox. The Sox could be 55-25 and he'll find a negative somewhere. With the Cubs, it's all sunshine. Anyway, we all knew the Cubs were better than the Reds and Pirates. Big deal. They've got the Mets and Rockies coming up. I believe they play the Cardinals, Brewers, D-backs and Padres the first couple weeks of next month. So we will indeed find out just how good they are (and then fathom can really get excited).

I don't see what's so bad about me saying they're a good team? Their offense is significantly better this year than last year with the upgrades in RF and at catcher position. That sad, it's too bad they don't face Santana this week.
