Cerbaho-WG
OMG I FOOLED YOU LOZLZLZL. Actually, no I didn't. Some guy on the ESPN board said that Gammons said the Rangers are taking Diaz and Pacheco. Take it for what it's worth.

Rex Hudler
OMG I FOOLED YOU LOZLZLZL. Actually, no I didn't. Some guy on the ESPN board said that Gammons said the Rangers are taking Diaz and Pacheco. Take it for what it's worth. If they had a scout at tonight's game, then they would be stupid not to take Pacheco. He was hitting 94-95 on the radar gun often and blew Jacksonville away. He pitched 7 innings, gave up 6 his and no walks, one run and struck out 8. He throws a good hard fastball with life, a nice slider that can come in as high as 87 or as low as 78-79. Needs a third pitch though. Didn't throw too may changeups as far as I can see. The best thing about his performance tonight is that he threw exactly 100 pitches and 70 were for strikes. He has really come out of nowhere this year.
Rex Hudler
Wouldn't they get a 3rd player if they took those two? I may have made an assumption, but I thought Yan and Webster were the only two guys in the "A" pool that limited the Rangers to two players. Was I wrong? Cerbaho-WG
I'd assume Diaz is in the 'A' pool.

Pacheco is a guy thats really shooting up the charts. I'm hoping that the Rangers miss him. The great thing is that I really think Ken Williams has a good plan. Highlight the prospects he and the scouts really like and then the rest are pretty much bait. To me thats a great plan cause only so many pan out and the rest fade away, so its best to take advantage of that as best you can. Hype everyone, keep only the very best. Considering the Sox are very taletned in the area of the draft, they should always have new pools coming in. As guys move through the system, you filter the worse out and know when the time is ready, you can move them to improve the team and they will have a lot of value. With Guys like Reed, Cotts, Honel you know those are extra special and you hold onto them for dear life, the rest you just let go for younger guys and you know you can get prospects back for the guys you can acquire if need by. When you look at it, a lot of the huge trades where prospects go for a superstar, its almost always the case that the team that gets the superstar wins. Chisoxfn
I'd assume Diaz is in the 'A' pool. Ya, I think 3 are from the 1st pool. I think Yan, Webster and Diaz are in that group. Thats just a guess.
The Critic
Anybody know WHEN the Rangers have to decide? Seems like they're taking their time choosing...
Rex Hudler
Anybody know WHEN the Rangers have to decide? Seems like they're taking their time choosing... I have read both July 25th and July 31st, so not sure.
Jim Fainter
Jason, I don't think the Rangers will miss Pacheco. He will be very well scouted; I'm sure the Rangers had someone there last night. Unless they are overwhelmed by Webster, they will take as many pitchers as they can. Either way, Everett will turn out to be very expensive. upnorthsox
I would guess that KW reserved the right to trade any of those guys and thus give the Rangers motivation to makes their choices as early as possible. But then again we are talking about KW so who the hell knows. I have only heard the July 25th date.
Jim Fainter
I meant to say this earlier, but got distracted. That is, you really have to hand it to GM John Hart the way he negotiated this trade so that he has plenty of time to scout the entire player pool. This trade is a very big deal to the Ranger franchise, and Hart will have a strong feeling about which players will help his team the most. Little guess work on his part. Jim Fainter
Rex, have you heard anything about moving Reed up to AAA this year?
