I constantly wonder why guys like Ortiz and Thome who are so badly overshifted don't try laying down a bunt up the 3rd base line. If the pitcher doesn't field it then they're hitting 1.000.

Exactly, I actually think Jeter is a solid SS also.

Cabrera > Jeter. Jeter has a slick glove and a decent arm, but he makes sweet diving catches that make ESPN highlights other SS's would make routinely by just jogging in front of.

 

However, his Hall of Fame bat makes up for any defensive deficiencies he has.

I don't get why they do the shift....then pitch them outside.
