CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) today announced it would grant more than $3.2 million to 30 Chicagoland organizations in 2008. This year's CWSC grant donations move the team's non-profit arm beyond $12.2 million in cumulative giving since its inception.

The 30 grant recipients represent a list of causes and organizations across the Chicago metropolitan area that are committed to the fight against cancer and dedicated to improving the lives of youth through education and athletics.

Among this year's grants are two separate $1 million contributions, one to Children's Memorial Hospital for the development of the new Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and the second to Easter Seals of Metropolitan Chicago toward construction of the new Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research. CWSC also will donate $500,000 to After School Matters' Sports 37 sports apprentice program. Additionally, CWSC will donate nearly $700,000 to 27 other organizations this year.

The new Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is slated to open in 2012 and will boast a 1.1-million square foot facility. The new Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Research, located in the Illinois Medical District (Chicago), will be the first of its kind, incorporating education, treatment and intervention, along with clinical affiliations with major hospitals and universities, and vocational training and job placement programs. Easter Seals of Metropolitan Chicago also will name its baseball field at the new facility in recognition of the White Sox. After School Matters' Sports 37 program engages teens in activities that develop important life skills and a healthy approach to living.

"As an organization, the White Sox have an ongoing responsibility to fans and the entire Chicagoland community. It is a responsibility we take very seriously," said White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. "This year's White Sox Charities grant recipients are organizations committed to the community and dedicated to the growth of people of all ages, races and genders. We commend them on their work and devotion to bettering life for Chicagoans."

All 30 organizations receiving CWSC grants in 2008 will be recognized during a special on-field ceremony prior to the game on Thursday, May 8.
