HuskyCaucasian
at 7:15 AM this morning, WGN Radio announced they will be the new home for Blackhawks hockey. http://wgnradio.com/index.php?option=com_c...4&Itemid=51 CHICAGO, April 30, 2008 - Blackhawks fans will soon find their favorite team on Chicago’s favorite radio station as all home and road Blackhawks games will be broadcast on WGN Radio beginning this season. The Chicago Blackhawks and WGN Radio announced today that they have agreed to a three-year partnership that will make WGN Radio the flagship station for Blackhawk Hockey through 2010-2011. The agreement unites two institutions that are synonymous with Chicago and have been part of the city’s fabric for more than 80 years. “This is a big step forward in the new direction of this franchise,” said Blackhawks President John McDonough. “WGN Radio is one of the most powerful and prestigious stations in the country and will play an integral role in delivering our great product to as wide an audience as possible." “The Blackhawks are proud to partner with the one of the most recognized call letters in the business,” said Jay Blunk, Blackhawks Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “The legendary power and reach of WGN Radio will expose our brand to a new generation of Blackhawks fans at a perfect time in the team’s history. With some of the brightest young stars in the NHL, this agreement signals a new era of Blackhawks hockey" “WGN Radio is the Voice of Chicago and we’re proud to now also be the Voice of the Blackhawks,” said Tom Langmyer, Vice President/General Manager of WGN Radio. “WGN Radio and the Blackhawks truly represent the essence of life in Chicago and we’re thrilled to bring our listeners the excitement of Blackhawks hockey.” Earlier this month, the Blackhawks announced a partnership with WGN Television and Comcast SportsNet, along with the National Hockey League’s network partners, Versus and NBC, to televise all 82 regular season games plus the playoffs in high definition. As Chicago’s top-rated station, WGN Radio’s 50,000-watt signal reaches thirty-eight states and Canada and offers live Internet streaming available worldwide. The Critic
This is wonderful news. No more falling asleep during a Hawks game and waking up to the hideous David Stein or (God forbid) Mike North show. Now the Sox need to leave the Score and I'll be happy. Steve9347
I brought this up in the NHL thread, but what happens if the Cubs/Hawks seasons overlap (playoffs for the Hawks)?

I felt like ESPN 1000 took more ownership of the Sox and it felt more like their "home." Maybe I just liked it more because of John Rooney, which obviously isn't the Score's fault. Sigh. Swingandalongonetoleft
I like em on the Score. Has more of a Chicago feel to the station. Only problem is early in the season (now) it messes up the Boers and Bernstein schedule.
knightni
The Score used to treat them badly when the franchise was bad and Dollar Bill was in charge. Good for Rocky, getting a real station.
shipps
I would think this is a bad thing for them. The Score seems like it is way more popular than than WGN radio.
knightni
Does this signal the Bulls coming to The Score?
Steve9347
QUOTE (knightni @ May 1, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Does this signal the Bulls coming to The Score? The Bulls are on ESPN 1000 and I don't see that changing. That's where they belong. After the gaff that was putting them on FM two years ago, I doubt they make a move. HuskyCaucasian
This from Robert Feder this morning... Tribune Co. did not pay a rights fee to pick up Blackhawks hockey broadcasts on news/talk WGN-AM (720). The three-year deal, announced Wednesday, is based on a commercial revenue-sharing agreement.
