max power
He is still a career .761 OPS guy by your stats. That's not bad.
Kalapse
QUOTE (almagest @ May 2, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Bats left, throws right. I'm not advocating benching Konerko -- I'm advocating giving Konerko a few days off here and there, with Swisher going to 1B, and Anderson in CF. Also, Thome has NEVER hit lefties well -- career .241 .342 .419. He shouldn't be in the lineup against lefties much at all, which would slide Dye or Konerko over to DH, Swisher to 1B or LF, Quentin to RF, and Anderson in CF. Except this year he's hitting .300/.364/.700/1.064 w/ 3 2B and 3 HR in 30 ABs vs southpaws.

the People's Champ
The obvious solution, to get more playing time for these other guys is to trade Thome. That would free up the DH spot for Swish/PK/Crede etc. Then there would be plenty of opportunities to start Fields/Anderson/Owens or whoever. All Thome is going to offer is the HR and people are complaining that the HR is all we are living off of right now anyway. I think we have enough power in this lineup that we wouldn't miss him. The only problem is he would have to go to another AL team, and the Sox probably wouldn't want to do that, for fear that it may bite them in the ass. And if he had been benched against every lefty starter this season, the Sox would have missed out on that excellent production through 30 ABs. Thome's gotten on base at a .400+ clip during his entire tenure as a member of the Chicago White Sox and has an OPS with the Sox at right around .975 or so. He's the most consistent producer within the lineup, and trading him would cripple the Sox chances at competing this season.

But everybody on this board thinks that Fields/BA are the second coming, and I'm just telling you thats the only way they are going to get consistant playing time, barring any major injuries, and/or multiple missed squeezed bunt attempts. We'll see how long they stay happy in those roles.

Who said anything about happiness? Besides that, Fields knows he's starting by opening day next year at the very least, and Anderson has 3 superior players ahead of him. Anderson should be happy he's finally accepted by his manager.

What a player tells the media to look good in the eyes of the people who hold the fate of his career in their hands, and what he really feels are two totally different things. He busted his ass to be here even just as the 4th OF and hasn't complained a peep, if he's wanted to, he's kept his mouth shut. That says more than anything else could IMO. Obviously he wants to start (I believe he said that too) but he knows he has a lot to prove and he still wants to be here.
