Chisoxfn
The White Sox will only keep Frank Thomas or Carlos Lee, but it is unlikely that both will be here this season. If Thomas leaves, then the Sox will most likely pursue a free agent starting pitcher and if he stays then the Sox will deal Carlos Lee for pitching. It seems to me that the Sox will be waiting a month or so before they do anything when it comes to pitching.
Molto
perhaps we are talking about, if we are lucky, getting Moyer if Thomas goes or Colon if Thomas stays. of course I still don't believe Lee will be involved in any trade to a team like the Expos. Chisoxfn
Lee's salary is pretty high which would hinder a deal with the Expos, but to me its the only way the Sox will add on salary. Plus Lee will be a free agent after this upcoming season and I can assure folks he won't be back as he will be asking for big bucks and Borchard will replace him. I don't think the Sox feel he fits in leftfield so he can DH and stay for a while or go elsewhere and I think the Sox can get a good amount in return. witesoxfan
Colon is making somewhere in the range of $6-8 million next year....Carlos at about $4 million. $2-4 million isn't that much, but if the Expos get some good pitching from us(maybe Ginter, Biddle, Adkins, Majewski, Almonte....you get the gist of it) or maybe someone like Felix Diaz(who scares the s*** out of me....remember Barcelo?), I think they would go for it....if they took Lee, Ginter and Wright for Colon, which they might as it involves Lee, who is probably the main part of the deal, Ginter who would be a good pitcher out of the pen for them and Wright who is a good, but inconsistent starter...I think that would be good too. Colon for Lee, ______, and ______(fill in the blank with a pitcher we have unless his last name starts with Bu, he played high school ball in Illinois, or he is the tallest pitcher in the MLB in history). Mr. Showtime
I would say the money they gave Konerko and what they'll give Buehrle was Frank's money.
BridgeportHeather
Colon for VALENTIN (not Lee), Wright, and Ginter.
witesoxfan
Valentin will make $5 million next year....there is a difference between Carlos and Jose money wise, though it may be small, and the Expos are looking to cut as much salary as possible. Not only that, but if we get rid of Jose, we have few options behind him....we have Jimenez or Graffanino who can play SS(Graffy is a utility infielder, so I needed to include him) and then we have Willie Harris, Tim Hummel and Aaron Miles(if we resign him) at 2B....in the outfield, if we get rid of Lee, we have Borchard, Liefer, Rowand, Sanders, Valenzuela, (Chad) Durham, Ingram, or we could even sign someone that is cheap and practically in the books, such as Jose Canseco(which would be reaching). Plus not every team can afford a power hitting shortstop like Jose can. However, a power hitting outfielder is a lot easier to find, especially with numbers close to Carlos's. Hell, I figure Rowand can put up those kind of numbers someday. That and the fact that the Expos have Orlando Cabrera at SS, though I have heard he is being shopped around. MurcieOne
I think if the Sox offer to pay a portion of either Lee or Valentin's salary.... the deal gets done.
Guest hotsoxchick1
you all seem to be foregetting something here.. .lee is one of kennys butt kissing buddies.... highly unlikely he will want to deal him without a fight............but i would be all for it if we got a decient pitcher out of the deal.....if theres any left out there that is............... I think right now Lee has a very good market value to the point that they wouldn't have to pay his salary. He really did some things last year that no one thought he'd figure out and that has people thinking he's on the verge of breakout. This means either he falls back to normal and his value is over-rated or he just continues to grow and the Sox don't get enough in return for him. Now if they get Colon back, you just can't worry. Lee, Wright, and one of the 2nd tier pitching prospects plus Ginter or Porzio and I'm happy.
