WCSox
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Great game for Contreras...maybe we can get some good value for him at the deadline. If we're still playing Corpseball at the deadline, we should try getting good value for Crede, Dye, Cabrera, and Thome as well. One way or the other, this team will be in need of a significant overhaul this winter.

No point in trading OC now....his value won't be nearly high enough to turn down the two draft picks when he goes elsewhere. Hopefully he stays an A. stretchstretch
depressing being a Sox fan right now, hard to muster up the optimism that anything we're seeing is temporary. Was supposed to be the season where OC and Swish injected hustle and aggression into the lineup, if that's gone already after a month of baseball, unlikely it's going to just reappear. So disappointing to see Konerko turn out to be truly a flash in the pan, I for one have accepted that what we're seeing now is his ceiling....either that or he needs a new home to make him remember how to hit a fastball, or go opposite field on a curve. Can't blame mgmt for believing this 3-4-5 could not, possibly, have another corpselike season, given their veteran history of production, but now they have to face the truth and offload no matter what. We are 29 games into a 162 game schedule. We should have won the game today. shipps
I dont feel that bad about this team.I obviously dont like the way our lineup is constructed but our pitching looks as if it will atleast keep us in contention to late in the season. Swingandalongonetoleft
Facing Doc did you really expect anything else? The previous 4 losses have been dissapointing/frustrating, this one was a given. You face a guy like Halladay or Santana and what you should be looking to do is find a way to win against their other guys.
BigSqwert
QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ May 4, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Facing Doc did you really expect anything else? Last I checked his career winning percentage isn't 100%. Getting tired of "tipping our cap" to great pitchers.
Greg Hibbard
actually we are still looking way, way, way better than I ever thought we would going into this season once the hitting straightens itself out, I only hope the pitching doesn't come back to earth tbh to me this team looked like garbage on paper and I'm not sure how anyone figured otherwise (or thought that the relatively hot start wasn't a mirage)
TheBigHurt
Yeah, another loss. But it was a bad umpiring job. I'm not gonna sweat this one too much. Nice job by Contreras. So in the last 2 games, our pitcher was screwed in one way or the other.
claydude14
Painful game to watch live as far as our offense, besides the 3rd inning. I had club seats on the third base line, sat next to an old guy with one tooth, nice guy. They didn't show the replay of the non-call double play in the stadium. I was hoping Ozzie would have argued more, but he didn't get ejected so that was smart. At least I got to see Quentin get hit by another pitch? Does he still lead the majors? You can't blame the team or any one player for this loss If Paul makes the play on that soft liner 3 feet to his right, the Jays do not score the 3 runs, like I stated before, if it was Crede that missed that very make able play, this board puts the blame on him. elrockinMT
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) We only had one inning where we had a base hit (should have been an error in the 8th). Are you talking about our scoring inning where we had more than 1 hit or just an ining period? I think I know what yuo are saying and if so I can't argue that our offense isn't doing great, but Halladay is one tough cookie on the mound. GreatScott82
Wow, already starting to talk about trading the veterans in early May? Yep looks like another looong season for being a Sox fan. I hate our lineup. I like our pitching, if we do continue to lose and fall out of contention, i do hope we trade guys like Contreras, Thome, Dye, and Uribe. Its time to re-stock that farm system and go from there.
zenryan
lol@ all the spinjobs on this thread. this team sucks. plain and simple. i'm not going to get upset about losses anymore b/c this team isnt good. i've come to grips that this team will win about 75 games. it is sad b/c if this team was just decent, it would have a 5 game lead right now. greg775
but Halladay is one tough cookie on the mound. So is Marcum, so is (fill in the blank). Our fate will be decided with how we do in our own division so let's get ready for our 19 games with KC and Minnie, Det, Cleveland. We've not even played the Royals yet. lostfan
I do like how Hawk made sure to mention at least 8 times that OC tagged the runner out with his glove on the guy's thigh (granted, he did) and that it was "the crew's fault." And that Contreras should've had a 3-1 win, blah blah blah. Hearing him complain about the umps is sooooooo tired.
LVSoxFan
Getting a bad ump call is part of the game. Sometimes it goes your way (hello, 2005 playoffs!), sometimes it doesn't. You can't blame loss five of a five game losing streak on bad umping. I agree, Hawk needs to shut it. I also agree that that dark, miserable feeling--it's called 2007--is starting to overtake me. The feeling of despair. Yes it's early, but after a season and a half already of corpseball, why shouldn't I be dreading what lies ahead? Face it: we are old and slow. Station-to-station is not what got us a WS title. We are home run-dependent. Our pitchers are going to wear out, fast, with so little run support. I don't blame Ozzie because this is the hand that KW dealt him. He can't make Konerko fast. The only short-term solution I would suggest is put OC in the leadoff spot; he's not hitting right now, but assuming he comes around, at least he can do something on base. That's great the Swish has a good OBP, but he is zero threat on the bases, which negates that. Shake it up. Do SOMETHING. Otherwise, if we're in corpseball mode by the ASB, I say, once and for all: blow it all up. Except for the starters (you can lose The Count): ship 'em all out and start young. I'd rather see young, hustling and even losing than another season of corpseball into September.
