whitesoxfan101
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) I hear you, nobody ever criticized Torre when he brought Mariano in the 8th to face 5 out of 6 lefties. If it is so easy to manage , get an interview. The fact you just compared a situation involving Scott Linebrink to Mariano Rivera proves you don't belong in this conversation. Lefties hit .209 against him in his career with a .523 OPS. That's Boone Loogyn territory right there. He'd be a lefty specialist with that cutter if he didn't destroy righties also. Harry Chappas
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) People here make me sick. When Ozzie plays the match-ups and brings in Logan/Thornton, he's wrong and should have brought in his set-up man and is micro-managing. But when he brings in his set-up man, he's wrong for not bringing in the LOOGY and playing the match-ups. Give me a f***ing break. Two of the best lefties in the game is not micro managing it is playing good odds. Thorton has been pitching just as well as Linebrink. Mauer and Morenau are as solid as they come and there was no RH bat coming in for them. Stone with a great point about the Floyd game and Jenks having pitched being a plus today. Rivera is better against lefties than most of the best lefty relievers in the history of baseball. It's a terrible example, not me starting something. SoxFan1
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) He's right? Rivera is better against lefties than most of the best lefty relievers in the history of baseball. It's a terrible example, not me starting something. He's not comparing Linebrink to Mariano, he's comparing the situation. Maybe it isn't the best comparison, but it hold water. The fact of the matter is that people here think they are much better managers than Ozzie. How many Major League wins do you guys have as manager? How many Major League wins do you guys have as manager? So the fact we haven't won games as a manger makes Ozzie a good manager? Whatever you say. The fact is Ozzie does a poor job managing the bullpen. He does almost everything else well, but he's awful at bullpen mixing and matching. Most managers suck at something, but when it's as important as the bullpen it hurts the team. Luckily it hasn't today.
