Neiffi Perez Waived by Royals

He had a terrible year last season, but he's still young at 28 and is a good defensive shortstop, minus last season(2000 Gold Glove Winner) and has a good amount of talent. I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox signing him to a minor league deal or something as an alternative in case someone doesn't produce.

the only problem with this move is then we have valentin /clayton all over again...as long as we have jose neffi isnt an option imo...which probably means we will sign him sometime this week:o

Here's my question, who would you start? Neiffi or Manos?

Neiffi isn't that great offensively, but he'd be a damn good #9 hitter with Jimenez leading off, but that really puts the Sox in a bind if Rowand or Jimenez struggles(Rowand would be hitting in the two hole).

I'd love the move cause it would mean the Sox may just deal Manos, but I also know it ain't happening.

FYI, forget Perez.  He was claimed by the Giants.

That means the Giants have no intention of keeping Jeff Kent to stick around and play 2B.

Kent stinks defensively, but it will be interesting to see how Perez does at 2nd for them.

I know Aurilla is their at short, but you'd think they would of made a push for someone like Ray Ray.

Speaking of Ray, anyone even talking to him yet?

The A's want to resign Ray and have him be their DH. The Giants will also join the race to sign him if they can't resign Kent.

I saw the Giants did contact his agent...maybe things didn't work out so well. And maybe Perez will only be a defensive replacement...and if that occured, that would be one of the saddest things to happen in the MLB status wise...Neifi Perez, from a gold glove winner to a reserve infielder in 2 years....that's what happens when you go from a good place(or somewhat good...that being Colorado) to a bad place(that being KC). Look what happened to Greg Vaughn....can you believe this guy hit 95 homers in consecutive seasons within the past 5 years, including 50 in '98 :o ? This year.... .163 8 29 in 251 AB's....82 K's too.

And people thought Thomas had fallen from the ranks....

I think a big part is some players can play in certain situations others can't. I don't think Perez ever liked Kansas City and he really did fall out of place.

He was once a prize prospect who now will have to work his way up from being a backup infielder. Of course when you go to a winning team you get a whole lot better faster, or at least some players do.

One person that did the opposite was John Rocker in '01....he blew up in Cleveland.

Jermaine Dye comes to mind right away. Scott Brosuis did too.

And Jose and Cal did it in 2000....goddamn 2000 was fun....I wanna ride again....
