southsider2k5
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Worst post in the history of Soxtalk. Well to be fair, Jordan is/was a serial adulter and a big time gambler. Unless LeBron has some things that no one is talking about, I would rate not shaking hands as below both of those. Ha, he was in the NBA and the most popular man in the world and was married to an old-hag mistake. Juanita had it coming for being a world-class b**** and mistake. I respect him more for getting his. (Note I do not endorse adultery, I'm just saying... he's an NBA player, they all cheat) As for the gambling, if you can afford it, what's the problem? This ain't Barkley here. Both make mistakes, but from what I've seen, Jordan was not Ghandi or anything. Greatest player ever no doubt, but not the definition of class. Personally I don't care about the personal lives of athletes as long as they're not breaking laws, I don't want to hear about it. And I would conservatively bet that at least 50% of married NBA players cheat on their wives.

Yes,that post does get my vote for worst ever...MJ,off the top of my head lost 3 times to the Pistons, once to Boston and then to the Magic and he shook the opponents hands after losing, especially tough was against the Pistons considering how they played (like thugs). We ain't criticizing James personal life, just his on court antics and lack of sportsmanship, nobody is saying he's an evil ahole.

Besides, 1) Kerr swung at Jordan first and 2) Jordan didn't get a free pass for that anyway, and he immediately apologized to Kerr for it. Nice obfuscation shrugging off the direct (and horribly inaccurate) comparison shaking hands after losing though, what's this have to do with LeBron again and the fact that he was in the wrong? Someone else brought up Jordan in terms of class, and another person called Jordan classless. After that it was called "the worst post in the history of Soxtalk", even though Jordan has done many, way less classy things than LeBron has. Plus after googling, Kerr wasn't the only teammate punched by Jordan. Will Purdue got a shot, as did Larry Krystowiak. And yes to me, punching multiple teammates (or even one) is worse sportsmanship than not shaking hands after losing.
lostfan
I don't even see why Jordan was being brought up in the first place or why anybody's bringing LeBron's character in this so soon. Had the Cavs won and Dwight Howard been the one to leave, not shake hands, not talk to teammates, and ignore the media, he would've been called out too although he isn't as much of a star with as many crowds of people hanging off his nuts as LeBron is. People have done it before, and been called out for it.

Punching teammates at practice when they made up afterwards is more classless than not having sportsmanship on the court? That seems a bit backwards to me. LeBron's act is alot like the act of Thomas and company when they walked off after the Bulls beat the Pistons in the playoffs, I would put LeBron on about the same level at Isiah Thomas as far as class at the moment. nitetrain8601
It was just a gift from his mom. Nevermind the fact that she couldn't afford a Honda Civic brand new, much less a Hummer. As far as Jordan, he punched his teammates because they mouthed off to him and even tried to swing at him after he yelled at them not being prepared. Maybe that's why he became the best. He demanded excellence from his teammates, even if they were crappy scrub players. Shaking someone's hands though after tehy beat you fair and square is unsportsmanship. Beating up your teammate because he won't learn a play or two is much different. Heck, I wish Jordan was still here to do that to some of our current players. Yes, I know it is crazy, but I find acts of violence less sporting than not shaking someones hand after a series. If you like, I could just punch you, but shake your hand afterwards if that would make you feel better.
lostfan
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Yes, I know it is crazy, but I find acts of violence less sporting than not shaking someones hand after a series. If you like, I could just punch you, but shake your hand afterwards if that would make you feel better. Actually, I'll swing at you first after we argue, then you can punch me and I'll call you out on it, for accuracy's sake. You know, I'm not going to excuse that kind of behavior, but this stuff is so much more common than some of you guys act like it is. Big macho athletes + huge egos + adrenaline and testosterone + always being around one another = occasional scuffles. Torii Hunter punched Justin Morneau in the face once. They were buddies after that. Jordan punched Kerr. A couple years later in the huddle he said he wanted Kerr to take the game-winning shot to win the Finals. Olin Kreutz punched Fred Miller in the face in '05, then both of them made up and played lights out the rest of the year.
