Rose is basically comparable to Deron Williams, and if he turns out to be anything close to that, Bulls fans' should be very happy.

Not really a fan of that comparison. Both great pg's but they have pretty different skill sets.

I agree. I think Williams is more of a game pace controller who sees the court better than almost anyone, while Rose is a bit faster and more athletic.

Well I mean in terms of size and length for a PG.

In a different system (more fast paced offense), I think Williams could be more explosive, but he's used in a pretty controlled offense under Jerry Sloan.

You could say he's a mix b/w CP3 and Deron actually.

Either way, if Rose becomes as good as either of those 2, they've hit a home run here.

I'm surprised McHale would have offer Jefferson for the #1 though. Would they have taken Beasley I wonder if they ended up with that choice?

As for the Mayo trade, I like what Memphis did there. Conley and Mayo in the back-court is a good mix. Makes you think what are they going to do with Crittendon and Lowry though. My guess is the latter is definitely on his way out, maybe to Denver.

I don't like Love as a prospect, and Minny have basically 2 PF's now down low, but Mike Miller will be a good fit at SG/SF.

Where did you see this?

Plus, like you said, I think Rose is a mix of Paul and Williams. He's more explosive then Williams, like Paul, but he's a bigger type PG, like Williams.

Ha. I was wondering about this when I saw Stephen A. Smith was not on the main panel.

It was rumored earlier on in the thread. It's only a rumor though.

Derrick Rose is the most talented and gifted all around PG I have ever seen come out of college. I can't compare him to anybody, because I've never seen a 19 year old (or even a 21/22 year old) point guard as good as him as they entered the NBA. I'm sure Jason Kidd was close, but to be fair I don't really remember him at Cal.

Will someone please explain to me why Russell Westbrook has more value than Chalmers. Both are very long, fantastic defenders, and turn the ball over too much. However, Chalmers is a significantly better shooter than he is. I swear, if it wasn't for a few highlight dunks, Westbrook would be a no-namer.

Agreed, Westbrook at #4 was just an incredibly stupid pick. He's not big enough (or a good enough shooter) to play 2, and I still don't think he can play point at the NBA level. Just strange to see people fall in love with him so much.

I saw Taylor play at Iowa St quite a few games, and he was just a stat sheet stuffer (and not always in a good way). I wonder if Felix remembers the crazy game at Minnesota when he had like 30 pts in the 2nd half of the game. Also, I think when he first went to the D-League last year, he told people he went to UCLA.

Now why would you do that?

Pooh is much more athletic and explosive than deron williams...

Honestly though, I think Deron was just more mature of a floor general coming out of school. He changes teams and they way they play, he was basically the reason Illinois was that good of a team when they were. Rose is obviously more physically gifted however.

Reading this, am I right in assuming that you then believe Rose will have a better season next year than Chris Paul (or Deron Williams) did during their rookie years? Deron Williams, maybe, but I see no way of Rose matches Paul's 16.1 ppg, 7.8 apg, and 5.1 rpg during his rookie season. Maybe somewhere inbetween what D-Will did (10.8 ppg, 4.5 apg, 2.4 rpg) and Paul, but certainly not better than Paul's first year.

I don't know what's not to like about Westbrook. 6'3 with long arms and one of the best athletes in the draft. Showed he had potential at the PG position last year when Collison went down. He's already an elite defender and has shot 35% from 3 during his career, and 46% overall for his career. All of this and he's a month younger than Derrick Rose. He even played in an offense that was an exact opposite fit for him.

As for Chalmers, he was WAY undervalued on draft day. I had him rated at about 14th-15th overall. I think Westbrook is a younger more athletic version of Chalmers.

Rose will not score 16 a game, but the assist and rebound numbers will be similar to Paul's. The fact Rose only had one year of college experience means he will start a bit slower too IMO.

Again, correct me if I'm misinterpreting this, but it looks like two different thoughts here. Either he'll be the best rookie point guard you've you've ever seen (your first post) or he'll start off slow, leading me to believe that you don't think he'd be the best rookie point guard you've ever seen due to age (your second post).

Also, if he'll have comparable apg and rpg to CP, but less ppg than him, wouldn't that make CP a better rookie and therefore a better PG directly out of college?

He's the best point guard I have ever seen enter the NBA. I did not mean he will start off the fastest though, that is often determined by the system you are in, your teammates, and your coach. It'd be foolish of me to just say he'll come in and put up great numbers from night one. What I meant moreso is he is the most talented PG I have ever seen enter the NBA, and once he gets his feet wet, I expect him in the all star game every year. I'd say by his third year in the league, he should be the best point guard in the league, especially since his shot should continue to improve. I definitely never said he'll be the best rookie PG I've ever seen, that'd be silly. Even Kobe Bryant only averaged 7.6 points a game as a rookie, it's just hard to project what guys will be great from night one. But it's not hard to project who will be great in general, and Rose will be.

Um, Paul was much much better coming out of college. I assume you must be very very young. Paul out of high school was better than Rose out of high school. People just don't realize how much of a beast he has been for the longest.

Coming out of high school, Paul was ranked behind such monsters as Ndubi Ebi, David Padgett, and the great Leon Powe. Rose was in competition for the #1 spot between Mayo, Beasley, and himself the entire time.
